Droid Incredible gets rooted at long last
Posted on June 10, 2010 | No CommentsThe Incredible wait is finally at an end -- HTC's finest handset on Verizon had proven quite the tough nut to crack, but at long last it has succumbed to the efforts of some industrious root-hungry coders. You should be mindful that progress is still at a very early stage, and hacking your own Incredible is said to be both "very hard" and "not very repeatable." The important thing though, is that it's happened, and we're now probably only a few days removed from a user-friendly patch that lets us truly do whatever we might want with that handsome device. They say roots are an important part of a balanced diet, and this one should go very nicely with a bit of Froyo, don't you think?

Nokia-Microsoft partnership bears first fruit: Communicator Mobile comes to E52 and E72
Posted on May 5, 2010 | No CommentsLast time we used "Nokia" and "Communicator" in the same sentence, we were talking about a giant QWERTY clamshell with roots dating back to the mid '90s -- but yeah, that's most definitely not what looking at here. Instead, we're seeing the first results of Nokia's newfound friendship with Microsoft, a build of Communicator Mobile that's all set up to run on the S60-based E52 and E72. Granted, an enterprise instant messaging utility isn't something we can all use, but that's just as well since it's limited to just two devices in Nokia's range at the moment; eventually, it'll be preinstalled on "select" devices and be available to a broader selection of phones already in the lineup. This is awesome, guys -- now let's get cracking on Office, shall we?Nokia-Microsoft partnership bears first fruit: Communicator Mobile comes to E52 and E72 originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 05 May 2010 16:11:00 EST. BlackBerry Storm2 hands-on and impressions
Posted on November 12, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, Features, RIM, Verizon Wireless, EV-DO, CDMA, BlackBerry OS
For a company with the most starched, buttoned-up roots of any major wireless manufacturer, RIM's venture out of its enterprise comfort zone to the consumer space went amazingly smoothly thanks to the introduction of the original Pearl, a phone that's still sold in a variety of colors, configurations, and carriers to this day. At some point, though, it became clear that the industry was moving toward touch -- a space RIM had never dabbled in -- and the trend gave birth to the Storm, a product that had obviously been rushed to market with countless software bugs and a dodgy SurePress concept that caused more problems than it solved. With prototypes floating around in the wild mere months after its predecessor's release, RIM's message was loud and clear earlier this year: "we need to fix the Storm, and we need to do it quickly." Ultimately, it's ended up taking the company just about a year to get the Storm2 to market, a product that attempts to tweak Waterloo's touchscreen strategy just enough to undo a few mistakes and send it down the right path. Mission accomplished? Read on.BlackBerry Storm2 hands-on and impressions originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Thu, 12 Nov 2009 15:00:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

HTC Tilt2 now available on AT&T
Posted on October 19, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, HTC, ATT, Windows Mobile, GSM, EDGE, HSDPA, UMTS
Those looking for a slightly more QWERTY-equipped WinMo 6.5 device for AT&T than the HTC Pure need look no further than its stablemate, the Tilt2, now that it's officially available to all comers. The carrier's second model to use Microsoft's latest and greatest cut of Windows Mobile stays pretty true to its Touch Pro2 roots, offering an industrial-strength full duplex speakerphone, 3.2 megapixel cam, WVGA tilt-up display, and of course, that five-row QWERTY keyboard that makes banging out long emails and extended MMS tirades just a little more tolerable. Interest parties should come bearing gifts and plenty of cash, because it'll run $349.99 on contract before a $50 mail-in rebate.

Chrome Soyuz: hardcore gear for the hardcore nerd
Posted on May 27, 2009 | No Comments
Unlike Timbuk2 or Manhattan Portage, San Francisco-based Chrome has managed to stick to their core roots without sacrificing their souls to make diaper bags and yoga mat holders just to make an extra buck. It’s inevitable, though, that after 14 years Chrome would expand their line of bags to include those of us that aren’t as hardcore as the couriers biking around cities like Manhattan.
