Video: LG Panther WinPho 7 phone starts up for all to see
Posted on May 25, 2010 | No Comments
Would ya looky here! Looks like someone over at Innovative Singapore has posted a video that shows what it would be like to turn on a WinPho 7 phone for the very first time.
The device shown in the video (and right here) is the LG Panther, which has been making its way around the webs for a little while now.
It seems that LG will ditch the "Panther" monicker for a much more memorable "GW910", which is an issue I'll be taking up with their marketers directly.

Nokia N900 running Android 2.1, still rough around the edges
Posted on May 12, 2010 | No CommentsThis wouldn't be the first time we've heard of Android being lovingly grafted onto Nokia's N900, but this looks to be the most proactive effort yet to get it functional enough for lay N900 users (read: us) to actually install. Eclair's now up and running on the device, complete with both keyboard and touchscreen support -- important fundamentals, we reckon -- and it looks like there's enough chatter on the subject going on over in Maemo's official forums to keep this ball rolling. Everything's being managed under the so-called NITDroid project that aims to get Android ready to roll on both the N900 and the N8x0 series of tablets, so feel free to chip in some advice if you like -- a functional radio stack would have to be high on the priority list, you can bet. Follow the break for a little video of brilliant hackery in action.

Atari and Cryptic anger the people who bought Star Trek Online at launch
Posted on March 1, 2010 | No Comments
Remember Star Trek Online? Yeah, it came out waaaaay back on February 2nd of 2010. Well, it's Cryptic's game, but it's published by Atari, and since there maybe hasn't been the level of interest everyone was looking for, they are running a sale. It's a pretty good deal too, since you get the game for $10 off (which isn't so bad) and you an additional 60 days of free gameplay (which is the frustrating part). That's a total of 90 days of free play, including the 30 days that come with the purchase of the game. That seems really unfair to the players who pre-ordered or bought the game when it first came out.

Nine mechanical engineers build a spokeless bicycle
Posted on February 16, 2010 | No Comments
Nine mechanical engineering majors had a dilemma: what do you do for your mechanical design class when you only have a semester? Well, this guys decided to build a spokeless bicycle. Admittedly, only the back wheel is spokeless, but there are reasons for that.

Stable Android 2.1 hacked onto Droid, speeds through those extra home screens
Posted on December 19, 2009 | No CommentsStaying warm out there? Got a cup of hot cocoa in hand? Good, because Mr. Greek35T over at AllDroid has a stable version of the (previously rough-around-the-edges) Android 2.1 ROM ready for all you Droid users to play around with. It's officially "super fast," and probably the best thing to happen this weekend outside of that wicked jump you built on the neighborhood sledding hill before you went and watched Avatar with all your old high school friends. Hit up the source link for the full install instructions, and there's a video of 2.1 in action after the break.

Geek Weekend: Minneapolis-Saint Paul, MN
Posted on July 31, 2009 | No CommentsWikimedia We’ve been getting requests from various citizens to feature their respective cities in our new Geek Weekend feature here on CrunchGear, so when a request came in for the Twin Cities, John asked me to write it up and I thought, “Oh, great. More work.” “Perfect! I grew up there! I know where geeky stuff is [...]
