Hell freezes over: Verizon CTO Dick Lynch joins GSMA’s board
Posted on June 21, 2010 | No Comments
Of course, seeing how Verizon was one of the earliest and most staunch supporters of LTE in the mobile operator world, it comes as no huge shocker that Big Red has earned itself a seat on the GSM Association's 26 member- and 13 carrier-strong board of directors -- especially now that it's a full, card-carrying member of the GSMA as a whole -- but still, feels a bit weird, doesn't it? From a PR perspective, we're figuring Verizon wanted to have this wrapped up before it stages its first commercial 4G launches later this year, but at any rate, it's official: you're now welcome to call Verizon "a GSM carrier. What about you, Sprint? Follow the break for the full press release.Continue reading Hell freezes over: Verizon CTO Dick Lynch joins GSMA's board

Tech world mourns the loss of Jerome York
Posted on March 18, 2010 | No Comments
Jerome York - Jerry to the folks at Apple - joined the Apple board in 1997, the board that voted Steve Jobs back into the CEO position after a decade in the wilderness. York died of an aneurysm. Apple dedicated their entire front page to his memory:
Jerry joined Apple's Board in 1997 when most doubted the company's future. He has been a pillar of financial and business expertise and insight on our Board for over a dozen years. It's been a privilege to know and work with Jerry, and I'm going to miss him a lot.

The Complaint: Apple’s Patent Lawsuit Against HTC Is All About Android
Posted on March 2, 2010 | No Comments
Earlier today, Apple issued a press release stating that it has filed suit against cell phone manufacturer HTC for patent infringement. No mention of Android or Google was in the press release. But one of the actual legal complaints, which we've obtained and embedded below, makes no bones about it. As expected, this lawsuit is about Android. HTC, of course, is one of the largest manufacturers of Android handsets.
The complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Delaware targets: "certain mobile communication devices including cellular phones and smart phones, including at least phones incorporating the Android Operating System (collectively, “the Accused Products”)." By going after the biggest Android manufacturer, Apple is putting all Android cell phone makers—and by extension Google— on notice. Is there any doubt now why Google CEO Eric Schmidt had to resign from Apple's board last year? The battle lines are now drawn.

Even ScotteVest caught the iPad fever
Posted on February 1, 2010 | No Comments
IPad accessories are popping up everywhere. Proof? ScotteVest is now advertising its 22-pocket Travel Vest for Men as the first clothing line with a pocket for the iPad. Maybe that explains where Colbert was holding his during the Grammys. He seemed to pull it out of nowhere. That's what ScotteVests are known for after all -- gadget concealment.

Google CEO Eric Schmidt Resigns From Apple Board. Surprised?
Posted on August 3, 2009 | No Comments
Lots of people will be arguing today that this was inevitable, but the news comes faster than expected. Google CEO Eric Schmidt is no longer going to sit on Apple's Board of Directors, nearly 3 years after accepting a seat.
The resignation comes a few days after the FCC sent letters to Google, Apple and AT&T inquiring why Apple denied the Google Voice application from its iPhone App Store.
Here's Apple's statement on the matter:
