Want Safari Reader functionality in Firefox or Google Chrome? Try Readability (it’s quite good).

Aside from the usual under-the-hood improvements, Safari 5 ships with a new feature called Safari Reader. The concept is simple enough: you're reading text on a Web site but don't want to be distracted by terrible page layouts and extraordinarily annoying animated advertisements. You activate Reader, then the browser isolates the text and applies a far more readable formatting to the text. The result is much cleaner text, and text that doesn't destroy your eyes trying to read. The best part is that you don't need the new Safari to replicate the same functionality. I speak, of course, about Readablity.

Safari 5 to debut at WWDC

With WWDC just around the corner, it was only a matter of time before a few more details leaked out about the event. Steve Jobs recently mentioned at All Things D that come Monday we wouldn’t be left disappointed, even after the new iPhone had been leaked into the wild. Something exciting is still up Steve's sleeve but is it Safari 5?

Zeus keylogger affects Firefox, Internet Explorer users doing online banking

Ooh, this is a nasty one, isn't it? There's a computer virus out there called Zeus that targets users engaged in online banking. It affects users running Firefox and Internet Explorer—a fair chunk of all Internet users, then. As always, the best policy here is to keep your wits about you as you browse the Internet.

WWE Latest: Two years after App Store launch, WWE launches 1st iPhone App

It took WWE almost two years to release an iPhone App, but here we are. That's right, today the company, which fancies itself as some sort of catch-all, cutting-edge entertainment juggernaut, has bequeathed upon the world WWE Latest, a 99 cent App for the iPhone and iPod touch. It's fairly basic, but should help those of you itching for, I don't know, Diva photos or Raw results. You do know your iPhone has a perfectly viable Web browser, right?

Hands-On Demo Video: Opera Mini for iPhone [Update: First Impressions, Speed tests!]

Today was the day that pigs flew. Seemingly out of no where (or, arguably, perfectly timed to downplay all the rabble rousing surrounding some new terms added to the SDK), Opera Mini has been approved for the iPhone. It's not going to be available in the US for a few more hours, but we were able to dig it up by tinkering around with some settings and, well, pretending we were somewhere else. I'm checking it out right this second, but I wanted to give you guys a really quick hands on demonstration, along with a few early impressions and speed tests, to tide you over until it's available everywhere. Check it out after the break.

Apple promotes ‘iPad ready’ Web sites that abide by open standards

Something called the iPad comes out in a few days, and I'm not quite sure what it is. It's like a less powerful laptop, right? Hmm... Anyhow, Apple has published a lists of sites that are now 100 percent "iPad ready." Anyone else looking forward to sites having giant "Works With iPad!" banners and buttons and whatnot?

Apple Posts A Boatload Of New iPad Footage

There’s less than a week to go until the iPad’s April 3 launch date, but up until now footage of people actually using the device has been relatively scant — there’s the Steve Jobs keynote address, a few Flip-cam recordings from the twenty minutes reporters had after the keynote, and a whirlwind commercial. Today, we’re getting much, much more: Apple has just posted a series of eleven Guided Tours that walk you through many of the device’s core features, including Safari, Mail, iBooks, and the iWork suite. We can’t embed the videos here (you’ll have to head to Apple’s site to watch them), but here are some screenshots showing off the device.

Yar! There be hackers in your iPhone, stealin’ your texts.

EVERYBODY PANIC! A new exploit has been found in Safari, allowing hackers to rip the entire catalog of text messages (received and sent, deleted or not) from your iPhone for their perusal and personal privacy perversions. You load the malicious website, and it goes to work, no user interaction required. In theory, this same exploit [...]

Pretty big news, yes.

Wobble iBoobs jiggles its way out of the Apple app store

It’s no surprise that Apple’s approval and rejection process for iPhone apps can be completely arbitrary and often asinine. Take Wobble iBoobs, for instance: the application has been on the market for several months and has even earned about $300,000 in sales, but after Apple “recently received numerous complaints” from customers, the app was pulled. Skyfire acquires Kolbysoft, developers of the popular Steel browser for Android

Considering how many times I’ve written about it, it probably goes without saying that I’m a fan of Skyfire. By way of server-side magic (read: proxied data compression), it’s still the only smartphone browser that can reliably play both Flash and Silverlight content. Its only fault? It’s only available for Windows Mobile and Symbian S60. The [...]

Want to connect your iPhone and Bluetooth keyboard? There’s a (jailbroken) app for that (Update: video!)

The wait has been long, but now there's finally a means by which to connect your dear, yet almost buttonless, iPhone or iPod touch to a Bluetooth keyboard for some more intense finger tapping action. The project that delivered us this teasing video back in February has at long last reached the application stage, where simple commoners like us can use it to synergize our gear -- provided we've had the wherewithal to free it from Cupertino's overbearing clutches first. The BTstack Keyboard app is now available in exchange for $5 at the Cydia store, so if you want to be the first to write a bestseller on his or her iDevice, there's no time like the present.

Update: We've done the inevitable and had a quick play with the app ourselves. Pairing our iPhone and keyboard was a veritable cinch, and we were met by delightfully rapid responsiveness throughout, whether using it in Safari, composing text missives, or jotting those novella notes down. You should note that command, cut, copy, paste, and highlighting functions are not yet active, and then hurry along past the break to see a video demo.
