You’re Damn Right I’m A Fanboy.
Posted on June 14, 2010 | No Comments
As we all know by now, comments on the Internet are a fascinating thing. My favorite involve the word "fanboy." Generally speaking, it means you write (stories, tweets, whatever) about a certain topic with a positive angle. It's meant to be derogatory, but the truth is that it's so overused that it's almost completely meaningless. But for the sake of this post, I'll play ball. I have a confession to make: I'm a fanboy.
Now, I didn't say specifically what I'm a fanboy of, because there have been too many titles bestowed upon me over the years. At various points over just the past few months, I've been an Apple fanboy, a Google fanboy, a Twitter fanboy, a Facebook fanboy, a Foursquare fanboy, a Gowalla fanboy, and yes, even a Microsoft fanboy. Never mind that most of companies compete with one another, so it would be hard to be a true fanboy of multiple ones without misrepresenting your fanboydom of a few of the others. We'll just say I'm a fanboy and leave it at that. And that leaves me wondering: why wouldn't you want to be a fanboy?

Video: HTC EVO 4G vs Razors, Pennys, and Screws
Posted on June 11, 2010 | No Comments
So, for one reason or another, you've gotta send your HTC EVO 4G in to Sprint for an exchange. What do you do?
A) Wrap the EVO in the finest cloth you can find, ushering it gently into its shipping crate, or
B) Attack its screen with razor blades, pennies, and screws and film the whole thing for the sake of science/entertainment.
You can probably guess where this is going. (Hint: We probably wouldn't write a post about it if you went with option A.)

Ouch rumor: Project Natal will cost $150 stand-alone, part of $300 Xbox Arcade bundle this October
Posted on May 27, 2010 | No CommentsI sure hope for Microsoft's sake this isn't true. Word on the street is that Project Natal (which won't be the final name) will cost $150 and will launch in October. Considering Microsoft is aiming Natal at so-called casual gamers, what are the odds these people are going to shell out $150 to be able to play that paint-slinging game we've seen demoed over and over again?

Android’s daily shipment rate jumps up to 65,000 per day
Posted on May 14, 2010 | No CommentsBack in February of this year, Eric Schmidt used his keynote at Mobile World Congress to disclose an interesting tidbit: between Google and their hardware partners, they were then shipping a collective total of around 60,000 units per day. Not too bad, right? Its gotten even better. In a shareholders meeting yesterday, Eric took the time to [...] -

iPhone OS 4 Beta 3 released to developers
Posted on May 4, 2010 | No CommentsIt’s that time again, folks: another 14 days have passed, so another beta of iPhone OS 4 has been released to developers. As with the beta builds that came before it, this one is locked down tight — so unless you’re a developer (or, at least, have an enterprise developer account), you’re out of luck. As [...] -
Surprise! The HTC Legend preps for landing on AT&T by way of the FCC
Posted on May 4, 2010 | No Comments
The Legends are coming! The Legends are coming!
I've always had a bit of a soft spot for the HTC Legend. Sure, it's not the most powerful piece of kit in HTC's armory - but it's made of friggin' metal. You could give this phone to a bear for a few hours and have it come back mostly functioning. Can you imagine a world where bears have cell phones of their very own? That's a world I'd want to live in.
Though I don't believe they'll sell to bears, it looks like AT&T might be selling the Legend before too long.

Looks like Microsoft’s Kins might be heading to AT&T, T-Mobile, and many more
Posted on April 28, 2010 | No Comments
Looks like the Verizon/Vodafone exclusivity on the Kin 1 and Kin 2 might be short-lived -- or at least, someone at Microsoft is already prepping for the day when it's over.
Days before the Kin 1 and 2 were made official, a ROM hacker known only to the internets as Conflipper published screenshots pulled from an early copy of the Kin OS. After a bit more digging, Conflipper just stumbled upon some more goodies: Kin system provisioning files for other carriers. Lots.. and lots of other carriers.

Don’t wear your watches in the shower or under water
Posted on April 15, 2010 | No CommentsI always had a sneaking suspicion that I was doing something horrible to my watches by wearing them in water and now I know: almost nothing under the sun is truly waterproof. This older post by a watchmaker spells it out in plain English: most waterproof watches are, at best, not waterproof at all. Also, [...] -
Lawmakers have no idea what they’re talking about when it comes to technology
Posted on April 9, 2010 | No CommentsOh. My. God. Over in the UK, they're in the process of passing the Digital Economy Bill, which three seconds of research suggests is analogous to the DMCA here in the U.S. Better people than I have already written extensively about why it's Truly Evil, but this is pretty funny. "Copyright owners are currently able to go on-line, look for material to which they hold the copyright and identify unauthorised sources for that material. They can then seek to download a copy of that material and in so doing capture information about the source including the Intellectual Property (IP) address..." Pretty sure "IP" stands for "Internet Protocol," but what are you gonna do?

Verizon to launch the HTC Incredible within 2 weeks?
Posted on March 18, 2010 | No CommentsOh, HTC Incredible, you just can’t stay off the Internet, can you? We’ve seen you in not one, but two series of spy shots, we’ve seen you leak out in alternative color schemes — hell, we’ve even spotted you roaming around Verizon’s inventory system. We sure are seeing a lot of you — and [...] -
Google: Android Market now serving 30,000 apps
Posted on March 16, 2010 | No Comments
At the most recent Mobile World Congress, Google CEO Eric Schmidt revealed that the company's partners are now selling over 60,000 Android handsets on a daily basis. With that kind of growth rate, it's no wonder that the size of the Android Market is quickly increasing in its slipstream.
While Google doesn't publicly show how many applications there are in Android Market, a Google representative this morning informed me that the application store now serves approximately 30,000 free and paid apps in total.

Man. Unless they're trying to get this thing to leak all over the Internet, RIM is having one hell of a time keeping the BlackBerry Bold 9800 a secret. The prettier of two experimental form factors for RIM (with the uglier one being..
