FIFA explains why it’s so anti-technology: Wants to keep things equal, maintain human element
Posted on March 11, 2010 | No CommentsSepp Blatter (left), the FIFA president, has explained why there won't be goal-line technology at this year's World Cup, saying he wants the sport to maintain a "human element" and that all levels of soccer, from 6-year-old kids to open-goal-missing Gonzalo Higuaín of Real Madrid, need to be played with the same rules. Whatever you say, Sepp. I hope for your sake a Spain or Italy or Brazil don't get knocked out of the tournament because of a controversial coal; you won't hear the end of it.

Sony reminds us of the high-cost of first generation 3D TV
Posted on March 9, 2010 | No Comments
3D TVs are coming whether we want them to or not. TV makers and content providers aren't testing the water - they're jumping head-first and pulling consumers in, too. But like high definition a few years back, early adapters will be forced to pay a high premium and suffer through a format war of sort before it really catches on.
Take a look at Sony's just-announced 3D lineup: The company announced eight 3D BRAVIA TVs for the Japanese market along with a set of necessary 3D accessories, which will compete against Panasonic and Samsung sets when they all eventually hit the market in the coming months. Nevermind that the US models might be slightly different. Let's talk about the multiple steps needed to watch 3D content on your brand new 3D TV.

Oh look, a video review of Final Fantasy XIII from GameSpot
Posted on March 5, 2010 | No CommentsGameSpot just published a video review of Final Fantasy XIII. It’s the first review of the localized version of the game (at least I think it is!), so I’m putting it up here. Let’s watch it. I mean, I’ll get the game regardless of the review. Square Enix could a complete piece of junk and [...] -
HTC: Don’t put the Nexus One in your hipster jeans
Posted on March 5, 2010 | No CommentsThe wording in the headline may not be, you know, exactly what HTC said – but it might as well be. After the folks over at Crave UK woke up to a broken screen — which they swear isn’t their fault, as the device had just been sitting on a desk charging — full [...] -
Palm cranks Pre and Pixi production back up to the normal rate
Posted on March 3, 2010 | No CommentsOh, February 11th. I remember it like it was just a few weeks ago. A report came out claiming that Palm was halting production of the Pre and Pixi, and everybody panicked. Then it turned out that it was an entirely pre-planned production vacation for the sake of their Taiwanese employees who wanted to celebrate [...] -

The Apogee Astro Drive Series A101 from Chaintech is apparently the world’s smallest USB 3.0 drive
Posted on March 1, 2010 | No Comments
USB 3.0 is finally getting some traction in the market place as more products are announced from more manufacturers. Chaintech just intro'd its first USB 3.0 drive and slapped the notorious "world's smallest" label on it, which is probably true although a bit disingenuous as there's only about three USB 3.0 flash drives available right now.

Ultra Easy DIY Trick: Need to boost your iPhones volume? Grab a cup.
Posted on January 14, 2010 | No Comments
There are hundreds upon hundreds of thousands of D.I.Y articles on the internet, some more useful than others. I read maybe a dozen or so a day, solely for the sake of expanding my knowledge bank of obscure solutions. Every once in a while, one sprouts up that is just so damned simple, so face-palmingly obvious, that it makes me feel downright stupid for not thinking of it.
This is one of those.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 soars past $1 billion in retail sales
Posted on January 13, 2010 | No CommentsRemember back a couple months? The biggest news on Earth was the Infinity Ward and Activision Blizzard screwed up MW2 and the game was going to fall into a bucket of fail. There were boycotts, petitions, and general chaos concerning the shooter. Then it launched. Then people started playing it in droves. Then people shut-up and within two months the title surpassed $1,000,000,000 in retail sales.

TSA easing off new airline rules, JetBlue brings back live TV
Posted on December 28, 2009 | No Comments
It seems that the TSA is slowly backing down rules that were implemented after the foiled Christmas Day bombing. According to a Reuters report flight crews will now be a sort of Judge Dread enforcer. It will be up to the pilot and crew to determine if passengers need to stay seated or if they can have items in their lap. In-flight entertainment that shows the plane's relative location will also be under their jurisdiction.
With this much power in their hands, you better be good for the sake of everyone else on board. A simple request for a glass of OJ might result in everyone having to put their heads down for the rest of the flight.
This alleged snapshot of Windows Phone 7 Series running on the HTC HD2 has hit our inbox roughly a dozen times already, so I figured we'd go ahead and clear things up: No, it is not real.
It's really, really late here in Barcelona (as in 4:30 AM), so I've got to make this quick for the sake of getting any sleep tonight.
