Samsung Windows Phone 7 prototype hands-on
Posted on June 22, 2010 | No CommentsIt's been a bit of a unicorn since making a quick appearance at MIX, but we just got the chance to go hands-on with Samsung's Omnia i8910-based Windows Phone 7 prototype phone. Interestingly, we were told that this hardware will never be released to market -- it's just for testing purposes right now. That testing is going quite well, as far as we can see -- Microsoft's people are starting to carry WP7 devices as their personal phones now, and while the software is still quite buggy, the build we saw in action was noticeably faster than before. We were also told that the hardware in the pipeline -- particularly from Samsung -- is apparently quite spectacular, and that this particular device doesn't represent the launch set of devices. We'll have to see -- we actually thought this prototype was quite handsome in person, although it's a little thicker than you might expect. Hit up the gallery for some more pics!

Sprint keeps it green, announces the eco-friendly Samsung Restore
Posted on June 4, 2010 | No CommentsEVO 4G? Pah! Why get a 4.3″ inch screen’d, 1 Ghz CPU’d monster of a phone when you can get Sprint’s brand new Samsung Restore? Sure, it might be a bit less ridiculously powerful — but it’s eco-friendly! Made up of 27% recycled materials and 84% recyclable once you’re done with it, the Restore is [...] -
Video: Samsung I5801 mid-range Android phone
Posted on May 12, 2010 | No Comments
It must be Spring, because it looks like the little Androids are multiplying.
Today sees another mid-range Android device previewed before being set upon the masses. This time it's from Samsung.
Specs are a bit scarce at the moment, but as it stands, the device appears to run Android 2.1, 802.11n, 3G, a (possible) 240x400 display, 3.5mm headphone jack, and MicroSD slot.

Clearwire to offer WiMax phones from HTC and Samsung this year
Posted on May 6, 2010 | No Comments
Whenever we talk about WiMax phones (like the oh-so-drool-worthy EVO 4G), we're usually talking about Sprint. Well, Sprint's WiMax is powered by a (not so) little company called Clearwire (which, in turn, is 51% owned by Sprint) -- and they want some WiMax phones of their own.
During an earnings call yesterday, the company disclosed that they're planning on launching at least two WiMax handsets this year -- one from Samsung, and one from HTC. One will be powered by Android.. and the other? Its a mystery!

Samsung: “Like our new phone? Play some dodgeball!”
Posted on April 29, 2010 | 1 CommentLet’s try a little thought experiment here. Think about a new cell phone: it’s shiny, has a touch screen, and even a QWERTY keyboard. What else comes to mind when you think about that phone? What do you feel like doing? If your answer to that last question was “play dodgeball”, then congratulations! You’re insane exactly [...] -
Samsung takes a moment to announce the Android-powered Moment
Posted on October 7, 2009 | No Comments
Hot off the presses! Samsung has announced a new Android-powered phone: the Moment. The new Android-powered Samsung Moment is the first Sprint phone to use Samsung's new 3.2" AMOLED touchscreen display and will feature a landscape sliding QWERTY keyboard. And it's not priced all that bad either.

Exclusive: Dell’s Android phone is coming to the U.S.
Posted on October 6, 2009 | No Comments
Remember the Dell Mini 3i, Dell's China-only Android phone? Well it's not China-only anymore.
Rumor has it that Dell will bring the Mini 3i to the U.S. in the next few months to compete with other Android phones coming down the pike from HTC, Samsung, and Motorola.
The phone, presumably still in its Chinese trade dress, felt "cheap and plasticky, like the Pre," according our tipster. He believes it will be upgraded for the American market.

This is the Samsung W880: It’s a phone with a 12-megapixel camera. Because why not?
Posted on September 29, 2009 | No CommentsAnd here I thought the megapixel race was over! Guess not, what with Samsung showing off, for the very first time, the SCH-W880, the world's first cellphone with a 12-megapixel camera. Because how many times have you said to yourself, “Man, I want to take a photo of this unusual drink, but only have the iPhone's rubbish camera”?

WinMo 6.5 coming to the Samsung Omnia i900?
Posted on September 16, 2009 | No CommentsMobile phone manufacturers are usually not the most generous when it comes to providing OS updates for older smartphones. That fact didn’t stop a curious Samsung Omnia i900 owner in the Netherlands from contacting his local Samsung branch about the upcoming release of WinMo 6.5. Lo and behold, a representative from Samsung Netherlands replied with surprisingly [...] -
Alltel launches the Samsung Glint, the world’s most generic flip phone
Posted on August 20, 2009 | No CommentsFun fact: I do believe this is the most basic phone we’ve ever written about on MobileCrunch. Really. The press release is all of five sentences, and the specs sheet rattles off “VGA Camera”, “Messaging”, “Stereo Bluetooth”, and then realizes its own futilility and gives up. Have you ever noticed that Samsung can sell the same [...] -
Samsung SGH-T939 is the Behold 2, might run Android
Posted on July 14, 2009 | No CommentsSamsung really must hate all these regulation groups. First, BluetoothSIG spills the beans on the Armani 2. Just hours later, the Wi-Fi Alliance has slipped out some details of a previously unannounced Samsung SGH-T939. We wouldn’t have much to go off of with just the model number — fortunately for us, they went ahead and [...]
