  • Samsung Windows Phone 7 prototype hands-on

Samsung Windows Phone 7 prototype hands-on

It's been a bit of a unicorn since making a quick appearance at MIX, but we just got the chance to go hands-on with Samsung's Omnia i8910-based Windows Phone 7 prototype phone. Interestingly, we were told that this hardware will never be released to market -- it's just for testing purposes right now. That testing is going quite well, as far as we can see -- Microsoft's people are starting to carry WP7 devices as their personal phones now, and while the software is still quite buggy, the build we saw in action was noticeably faster than before. We were also told that the hardware in the pipeline -- particularly from Samsung -- is apparently quite spectacular, and that this particular device doesn't represent the launch set of devices. We'll have to see -- we actually thought this prototype was quite handsome in person, although it's a little thicker than you might expect. Hit up the gallery for some more pics!

Video: Samsung I5801 mid-range Android phone

It must be Spring, because it looks like the little Androids are multiplying. Today sees another mid-range Android device previewed before being set upon the masses. This time it's from Samsung. Specs are a bit scarce at the moment, but as it stands, the device appears to run Android 2.1, 802.11n, 3G, a (possible) 240x400 display, 3.5mm headphone jack, and MicroSD slot.

Clearwire to offer WiMax phones from HTC and Samsung this year

Whenever we talk about WiMax phones (like the oh-so-drool-worthy EVO 4G), we're usually talking about Sprint. Well, Sprint's WiMax is powered by a (not so) little company called Clearwire (which, in turn, is 51% owned by Sprint) -- and they want some WiMax phones of their own. During an earnings call yesterday, the company disclosed that they're planning on launching at least two WiMax handsets this year -- one from Samsung, and one from HTC. One will be powered by Android.. and the other? Its a mystery!

Samsung: “Like our new phone? Play some dodgeball!”

Let’s try a little thought experiment here. Think about a new cell phone: it’s shiny, has a touch screen, and even a QWERTY keyboard. What else comes to mind when you think about that phone? What do you feel like doing? If your answer to that last question was “play dodgeball”, then congratulations! You’re insane exactly [...]

Samsung’s first Bada phone, the Wave, shows up early

Oh, Mobile World Congress — how we love thee. You’re still a few days away, and already word of new handsets is trickling out. The guys at TheUnwired just caught this billboard going up in Barcelona, showing what appears to be the world’s first Bada phone: the Samsung Wave. There’s not a whole lot to be [...]

Samsung to show a bada phone at Mobile World Congress?

Fun Fact: if you were to run a Google Image Search for "bada" at the time I published this post, you wouldn't find a single image relevant to Samsung's bada operating system until the third page, otherwise known as "that page that no one goes to because they've given up hope." Maybe that'll change once Samsung shows off a smartphone running the operating system - which, if this statement from ol' Sammie themselves is any indication, might be as soon as two weeks from now.

  • Samsung Bada phone to be announced first half of next year

Samsung Bada phone to be announced first half of next year

We're still not entirely sure why Samsung feels the need to launch its own mobile operating system while still cranking out Android and Windows Mobile devices, but it seems like things are going full steam ahead: a spokesperson told CNET Asia today that a Bada phone would arrive in the first half of 2010. Sure, that sounds like a long time off, but really it's just six months after the big Bada SDK reveal in December, so we'll have to see if that's enough time for developers to sort things out and release any apps.

    [Thanks, Siobhan]

And it's not priced all that bad either.

Exclusive: Dell’s Android phone is coming to the U.S.

Remember the Dell Mini 3i, Dell's China-only Android phone? Well it's not China-only anymore. Rumor has it that Dell will bring the Mini 3i to the U.S. in the next few months to compete with other Android phones coming down the pike from HTC, Samsung, and Motorola. The phone, presumably still in its Chinese trade dress, felt "cheap and plasticky, like the Pre," according our tipster. He believes it will be upgraded for the American market.

This is the Samsung W880: It’s a phone with a 12-megapixel camera. Because why not?

And here I thought the megapixel race was over! Guess not, what with Samsung showing off, for the very first time, the SCH-W880, the world's first cellphone with a 12-megapixel camera. Because how many times have you said to yourself, “Man, I want to take a photo of this unusual drink, but only have the iPhone's rubbish camera”?

WinMo 6.5 coming to the Samsung Omnia i900?

Mobile phone manufacturers are usually not the most generous when it comes to providing OS updates for older smartphones. That fact didn’t stop a curious Samsung Omnia i900 owner in the Netherlands from contacting his local Samsung branch about the upcoming release of WinMo 6.5. Lo and behold, a representative from Samsung Netherlands replied with surprisingly [...]
