The iPhone Leak Gets Ugly: Police Raid Gizmodo Editor’s House, Confiscate Computers
Posted on April 26, 2010 | No Comments
Wow. Last week, Gizmodo published a massive scoop when they got their hands on what is mostly likely the next iPhone. At the time there was plenty of talk about the legality of Gizmodo's actions (as they admitted to paying $5000 for the device). Now Gizmodo has just published a post saying that editor Jason Chen had four of his computers and two servers confiscated by California's Rapid Enforcement Allied Computer Team, who entered the house with a search warrant.
Gawker's COO has responded to the actions by citing California Penal Code 1524(g), which states that "no warrant shall issue for any items described in Section 1070 of the Evidence Code", which protects information used by reporters.

MSIE6, blah blah blah
Posted on February 22, 2010 | No Comments
Sweet merciful fates, the continued existence and use of Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 is getting as much publicity as the Linux-vs-Windows debate. If you're interested in this story, and we all know you're interested or these stories wouldn't keep popping up, there's an interesting examination of the reasons for MSIE6's prolonged existence online for your perusal. The usual suspects -- slow-moving change-averse mega-corporations on protracted refresh cycles, cheapskates, and ignorance -- are rounded out by at least one surprising addition.

The Qisda QCM-330 is gorgeous, headed for Vodafone, and quite possibly Android-powered
Posted on February 8, 2010 | No CommentsWhen it comes to bar-shaped smartphones, it takes a good amount of effort to design something visually appealing. There’s really only so much you can do with a flat slab – and whatever can be done likely already has. With that said, there’s just something about this handset, the Qisda QCM-330. I’m not sure what that [...] -
Apple’s New Tablet To Be Baptized iSlate? Let’s Dig A Little Deeper
Posted on December 25, 2009 | No Comments
Nice scoop by MacRumors, which reportedly retrieved historical evidence that Apple has acquired the domain name islate.com back in 2007. Apparently, the Cupertino company registered the domain through brand protection firm Mark Monitor to conceal the fact that the domain name is theirs, as usual, but was briefly listed as the owner at some point in the past nonetheless.
If correct, that means we can add a rumor to a rumor: that the unconfirmed, unannounced but most definitely coming (maybe) Apple tablet device will be named iSlate. That would be in line with earlier connections of the ’slate’ term to the illusive tablet computer, based on New York Times Executive Editor Bill Keller calling it something to that effect in a speech.
Let’s dig a little deeper.

Epic shows off Unreal Engine 3 running on iPhone / iPod touch
Posted on December 22, 2009 | No CommentsThere's certainly plenty of good looking iPhone games available these days, but things could be about to get quite a bit more interesting, as Epic has now demonstrated its Unreal Engine 3 (the same one used for games like Gears of War 2) running on the iPhone 3GS and 3rd gen iPod touch to our friend Anand Shimpi of AnandTech. Unfortunately, it hasn't also announced any games or licensees that will be using the engine, but it seems like it has at least managed to get it running remarkably well on the hardware -- albeit in a somewhat limited demo, as you can see in the video after the break. What's more, Epic also reportedly said that it would be showing off the engine running on "another mobile platform entirely" at CES next month, but didn't drop any further hints besides that. Video after the break, and hit the read link for the full scoop.Continue reading Epic shows off Unreal Engine 3 running on iPhone / iPod touch

Motorola i410 comes to Boost, catchy name doesn’t
Posted on November 23, 2009 | No CommentsYou know how you can tell Moto's new i410 for iDEN isn't really supposed to be hip, stylish, or ultra-functional? Neither Moto nor launch partner Boost bothered to give it a fresh, funky name, bucking the trend set by the Clutch and Debut. Of course, with an utterly basic black rectangular shell, tiny monochrome secondary display, and lack of even a VGA cam, it's clear that they're going for the bottom-most reaches of the market here -- which means that customers should be able to scoop it up for a song on any of Boost's prepaid plans, happily. It's not up on the carrier's site just yet, but it'll be available before the year's up -- and Motorola says that this officially "completes Boost Mobile's 2009 device roadmap," so we hope you weren't holding out for some mythical Android device in the next couple weeks.Motorola i410 comes to Boost, catchy name doesn't originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Mon, 23 Nov 2009 12:39:00 EST. Confirmed: Virgin Mobile is getting the LG Rumor 2
Posted on August 27, 2009 | No Comments
It's a big ol' day of scoop confirmation for us. First the Nokia N900 turns out to be an exact spec-for-spec match with what we said it would be back in May. Just a few hours later, we're seeing confirmation that Virgin Mobile is getting the LG Rumor2 - just as we said they would back in July. Yeah, the second one isn't quite as huge as the first one - but a scoop is a scoop, right?

Disney reveals plot and title for new Tron movie
Posted on July 10, 2009 | No CommentsA sequel for cult movie Tron was rumored to be in preparation for years now, and today Walt Disney Pictures has finally revealed a few tidbits of information about the reboot of the "virtual reality film". It will simply be called Tron (and not Tron 2, Tron 2.0 or "Tr2n") and we'll be able to see some footage very soon. Disney said they will show a 3D clip from the movie during the Comic-Con in San Diego on July 23. The poster is from the first movie, which was made back in 1982 (and has aged pretty well).

As much as I'd love to claim the scoop is ours, the LA Times are actually the ones who got the word on what the first Natal games are going to be. All we have is a few names, but they sound promising.
It's a fact that if we weren't all so busy blogging about technology that we'd all be busy blogging about dogs. We love dogs! All of you folks out there without dogs are normally deprived of the joy and pleasure associated with dog ownership, but thankfully April 24-30 is <National Scoop the Poop week! This allows everyone to enjoy dogs! And to help you celebrate, CrunchGear is giving away ten Dog-e-Minder electronic dog tags!
