Microsoft leaks a screenshot of Windows Mobile… something

    Filed under:

Microsoft's been pretty cagey with the future of Windows Mobile so far, but apparently the Office Mobile 2010 team just doesn't care -- in addition to leaking a new interface in that confidential slide deck last month, they've now included this screen shot on the Office Mobile 2010 beta website. Here's what's wild: this design language completely matches the first set of Windows Mobile 7 leaks we saw nearly two years ago, so either Microsoft hasn't made any changes in that time, or what we're seeing here is something else entirely. Combine that with rumors that WinMo 7 isn't due to hit until the end of next year, and we're starting to think there's something bigger afoot here -- the only other alternative is that Microsoft has waited nearly three years to launch what's little more than a refresh of its current interface, and even Redmond can't be that slow to execute... can it?

So much for that PC version Modern Warfare 2 boycott

Thank you, PC Gamer How’s that Modern Warfare 2 boycott going? Well, judging by this screenshot, it seems that many of y’all were either bluffing, or simply couldn’t resist the temptation to, as Rock Paper Scissor put it the other day, Put The Cursor Over the Man’s Face. Boycotts only work when, you know, follow through [...]

Acer Liquid handled, evaluated, ‘not too shabby’

Looks like quite a few folks have got their hands on the Acer Liquid as of late, and lucky for us they've been rather loose-lipped with their thoughts on the subject. As suspected, the handset is running a 1GHz Snapdragon that's been under-clocked to 768MHz. And it looks like Acer didn't go crazy with the User Experience either, pretty much staying true to its Google Android 1.6 roots, albeit with a number of additions, including: social networking integration (Facebook and Flickr contacts and photo sharing), nemoPlayer for multimedia files, DataViz for Microsoft Exchange support, and the Spinlets music streaming service. In addition, Acer has redesigned some of the widgets, including the clock and the task manager, which now includes a preview of open apps. All-in-all, it seems to be a pretty solid Android handset with a few useful additions -- but as always, the verdict is out until we get our hands on one. In the meantime, hit up the read links below for a generous helping of screenshots, hands-on pics, and impressions.

Well what have we here? It seems that a “retail tipster” sent Kotaku the following inventory screen showing this potentially enticing deal: an Xbox 360 Arcade system for $199 “with $100 GC.” Let’s pretend for fun that “GC” means “gift card” shall we?

Believe it or not, but FIFA 10 isn't the only soccer game around. In fact, Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 just came out in Europe, and was the top selling game there last week. Not the top selling sports game, but the top selling game overall. Yeah, it's big.

JVC Kenwood made a pretty interesting announcement today [JP]. Their Ryoma is basically an HD digital TV tuner, BD/DVD recorder, AM/FM tuner and HDD recorder rolled into one. The bad news is you have to connect it with another device called M-LinX (the smaller one in the picture on the left) to access the radio functionality.

Report: Wii video distribution service comes to North America in 2010

In Japan, Nintendo has been experimenting with offering content other than just games for quite a while now. Japanese DS owners have been able to download anime movies and digital manga for over a year. And in May this year, Nintendo teamed up with the world's biggest ad agency, Tokyo-based Dentsu, to introduce a video distribution service for the Wii. Needless to say, this service is Japan-only, too. But that will change soon.

The first Avatar trailer is here (update: American version)

James Cameron's highly anticipated Sci-Fi movie Avatar (to be released on December 18) has been getting a lot of hype in the last few months, and now Fox gives us the trailer for the movie. But judging from this 2-minute teaser trailer, Avatar will look pretty cartoony/video game-ish (this is my impression at least).

iTunes 9 to support Facebook social playlists, third-party devices?

The authenticity of these screenshots is questionable, but we wouldn't really be doing our jobs if we didn't share them with you. So, what does iTunes 9 have to do with Facebook? According to the screenshots shared by BGR, the next iteration of iTunes will allow users to share playlists via Facebook. And then there's something about third-party hardware support. It's hard to see, but the second screenshot shows a Samsung YH-J70 popping up in iTunes. What's strange about this is that iTunes says it has 27.86GB of memory, but the J70 MP3 player ships as a 20GB device. We'll find out next month for sure.
