  • Samsung Stunt for MetroPCS performs surprisingly few stunts

Samsung Stunt for MetroPCS performs surprisingly few stunts

MetroPCS' bread and butter rests in the low- to mid-end of the handset spectrum since it offers its devices on a pricey contract-free basis, so it shouldn't come as any surprise that the freshly-announced Stunt from Samsung doesn't mess with the time-tested formula. The candybar trudges along with a 160 x 128 display, Bluetooth, AWS CDMA (like all MetroPCS handsets these days), and a shell utterly devoid of meaningful industrial design -- that's it. No more, no less. And sometimes, simplicity is a beautiful thing, right? It's not showing up on the carrier's site just yet, but the Stunt should be available today.

Motorola i410 comes to Boost, catchy name doesn’t

You know how you can tell Moto's new i410 for iDEN isn't really supposed to be hip, stylish, or ultra-functional? Neither Moto nor launch partner Boost bothered to give it a fresh, funky name, bucking the trend set by the Clutch and Debut. Of course, with an utterly basic black rectangular shell, tiny monochrome secondary display, and lack of even a VGA cam, it's clear that they're going for the bottom-most reaches of the market here -- which means that customers should be able to scoop it up for a song on any of Boost's prepaid plans, happily. It's not up on the carrier's site just yet, but it'll be available before the year's up -- and Motorola says that this officially "completes Boost Mobile's 2009 device roadmap," so we hope you weren't holding out for some mythical Android device in the next couple weeks.

  • HTC Droid Eris priced at $99 for Verizon?

HTC Droid Eris priced at $99 for Verizon?

Sure, the DROID's getting all the attention today, but you might recall that it's not the only thing Verizon has in the pipe has it preps its first Android assault -- HTC's got the Droid Eris in there somewhere, too, which is shaping up to be little more than a branded Hero in a slightly different shell. Against the insanely-spec'd DROID, that may not be a drool-worthy proposition, but fortunately, it's looking like Verizon is going to be pursuing an aggressive tiered pricing strategy that might allow these phones to coexist in peace and everlasting harmony: unlike the DROID's $199 sticker, gdgt has it on good authority that the Droid Eris will run a hundie less at $99. That spanks Sprint's version which currently runs $179.99, but hey, if this means we're going to see a price war down in the 528MHz trenches for the Android midrange, we're all for it.

Sidekick Outages Could Have Cost Microsoft Over $700,000 Per Day

Since the Great Sidekick Disaster of 2009, there’s been a nearly endless torrent of tips on the matter barraging our inbox. Some weren’t so much “tips” as they were “mindless rants”, while others were obviously just angry customers looking to make stuff up. Recently, however, a source which has proven itself reliable in the past has [...]

The Microsoft Windows Phone commercial: Small, puffy men will follow you around

Not only does the term “Windows Phone” just sound wrong, now they’re trying to equate all your Windows apps with puffy little men who love you but don’t want you to leave. The story is simple: the icons are your Windows apps. They miss you. You can take ether with you on your Windows Phone. Sadly, [...]

  • It shouldn’t be this difficult to upgrade a hard drive

It shouldn’t be this difficult to upgrade a hard drive

You know what's a little more difficult than I first imagined? Upgrading the hard drive in my late 2006 iMac. I had initially wanted to upgrade the hard drive so I could finally dual boot between Mac OS X and Windows 7, since the old drive, a 250GB model, was pretty much filled to capacity. (Trying to run Mac OS X with only ~5GB of free space isn't ideal.) And even though the iMac user manual clearly states that the only user-replacabable parts are the RAM, I figured, “Bah! I think I can handle a simple hard drive replacement.” I did, but not before wishing I had never so much had broken out a screwdriver.

Just as I thought. The 2nd generation Vivienne Tam netbook is just atherno netbook with a pretty graphic printed on its lid. That’s it. Maybe it’s the testosterone speaking, but who the hell cares? Sure, it’s nice looking and I can appreacate the artwork, but I’m thinking that few, if any, chicks will be willing to [...]

ChromeOS spotted with dock and other blurry UI elements

A blurry snapshot of ChromeOS has surfaced showing a new, Mac-like dock and some battery and wireless notifiers in the bottom corner. Seido extended Pre battery packs more bang for your dimensional buck

Lets face it: battery life on the Pre is pretty terrible.
