Droid X to launch with Android 2.2?
Posted on June 23, 2010 | No CommentsTake it with the finest grain of salt for now (which, given that the Droid X is going to be announced in about an hour, shouldn’t be a big deal), but we just got a bit of a last minute tip regarding Verizon’s newest addition to the Droid line. According to our tipster, Verizon is doing [...] -
The Engadget Show returns Wednesday, June 23rd with Jimmy Fallon, Microsoft Kinect, and more!
Posted on June 17, 2010 | No CommentsThat's right, Engadgeteers -- the tables have turned. Next Wednesday, June 23rd, the Engadget Show returns full force with a very special guest: Jimmy Fallon, host of NBC's Late Night with Jimmy Fallon (and also a major geek). Jimmy will be sitting down with us for the kind of frank, eye-opening, and downright thrilling one-on-one conversation only the Engadget Show can provide. Not only that, but we'll have the Microsoft Kinect live and on stage for a hands-on demo -- so you'll get a chance to see it in action long before it hits shelves this November! And there are lots of other major surprises in-store.
We'll also have music from the inimitable Glomag, along with some stunning visuals. Oh, and did we mention the crazy giveaways? Like... a pair of new Xbox 360s? Seriously, you do not want to miss this one -- it's going to be epic.
The Show will be taking place at the Rose Auditorium in Cooper Union's New Academic Building, located in Manhattan at 41 Cooper Square. Seating is extremely limited, so get there early!
Here's all the info you need:
- There is no admission fee -- tickets are completely free
- The event is all ages
- Ticketing will begin at 5PM on Wednesday, doors will open for seating at 7:30PM, and the show begins at 8PM
- You cannot collect tickets for friends or family -- anyone who would like to come must be present to get a ticket
- Seating capacity is limited (only about 200 seats in the theatre), and once we're full, we're full
- The venue is located at 41 Cooper Square New York, NY 10003 (map after the break)
- The show length is around an hour
Sprint is offering 50 guaranteed tickets to the Engadget Show taping to the first 50 entrants who text "ENGADGET" to 467467 or enter online! Standard text messaging rates apply. Click for the Official Rules and see how to enter online.

EliteGroup E ink e-reader, now with WiMax!
Posted on June 3, 2010 | No CommentsThis video shows off EliteGroup’s new e-reader with large E ink display, a Marvell CPU, and 3G, Wi-Fi, and WiMax. It looks like a freaking monster – probably a full 8 1/2 x 11 screen. These things are proofs of concept for manufacturers who then sell things like them to OEM customers. I doubt we’ll ever [...] -
HTC EVO 4Gs flooding into Best Buys, some Radio Shacks opening at 6AM on Friday
Posted on June 2, 2010 | No CommentsEVO fever -- have you caught it? Things are seriously starting to ramp up in preparation for Friday's festivities, the day that Sprint's EVO 4G hits shelves (though most will likely be sold before they even touch a shelf, truth be told). Radio Shack hit us up with the knowledge earlier today that it'll be opening some locations as early as 6AM -- and what's more, they claim to have "specifically set aside" some units for folks who didn't pre-order, so that might be your best chance. We're also getting a bunch of shots from tipsters who say their Best Buy locations have started taking delivery of the retail units, so at least you'll know they'll be in stock on Friday -- but for how long is another question altogether.
[Thanks to everyone who sent these in!]

BlackBerry Bold 9650 sales kicking off on Verizon this week?
Posted on May 31, 2010 | No CommentsWe can't vouch for the authenticity here, but a shot over Berry Reporter alleges that Big Red will finally start taking orders for the Bold 9650 via direct fulfillment this week -- on June 3, to be exact. Considering Verizon's time-honored tradition of being all over RIM's latest CDMA releases on the double (probably because their development is funded largely by Verizon's orders), we're actually kind of surprised it's not on shelves already; it's possible that Sprint negotiated a short, sweet exclusivity period for itself just to get a little bit of a head start, we suppose. Anyhow, if you don't want to mail-order this thing, the shot goes on to say that you'll be able to check it out and buy it in stores on the 10th of the month, so hold tight.

AT&T allegedly tells employees of iPhone 4 coming in June
Posted on May 26, 2010 | No CommentsTwo of the three iPhones released thus far have been launched in June. WWDC, where Apple generally announces iPhones 2-3 weeks before they’re shipping, starts on June 7th. If you had to guess, when would you wager that the new iPhone was coming? If you said “June”, awesome — you’re probably right, and click on after [...] -
Goodnight, sweet iPhone: Apple pulls iPhone 3G sales from their online store
Posted on May 25, 2010 | No Comments
You know what's coming up in just a few days? Apples Worldwide Developer Conference. With WWDC comes new iPhones.. and with new iPhones, comes the death of an old one. Apple may very well still offer the 3GS after the fourth-generation iPhone is on the shelves -- but offering the fourth-gen iPhone, the 3GS, and the 3G? Probably not going to happen.
The first herald of the iPhone 3G's impending death has come.

China’s knockoff iPads have no one fooled… or do they?
Posted on April 26, 2010 | No CommentsPretty sure China plays by its own rules when it comes to pirated versus non-piated goods, but this story's still worth a chuckle. Ever since Apple said that it would delay international launches of the iPad in order to placate U.S. demand— the magical and revolutionary device is flying off the shelves, it seems—Chinese manufacturers have flooded their internal market with iPad knockoff after iPad knockoff. They're slightly less expensive than the real thing, but the important part is that they're available right now. Not bona fide, but bona found. I love how that makes no sense whatsoever.

AT&T blacks out employee vacation dates in June, presumably for the iPhone launch
Posted on April 16, 2010 | No Comments
Another year, another iPhone. Everything's falling right into place. The rumor mill is churning at full forcing, and Apple has purportedly locked down their regular theater in San Francisco on June 22nd. Now, like they do each time an iPhone rolls around, AT&T is telling their employees not to make vacation plans in the month of June.

AT&T’s signal-boosting 3G MicroCell hitting the shelves in San Francisco today
Posted on April 11, 2010 | No Comments
If AT&T gets a bad rap for having poor signal quality in any city, it's San Francisco. Part of this is due to the sudden influx of iPhones in the Silicon Valley that began in 2007, putting an almighty strain on the network; of the roughly 800,000 or so people living in San Francisco, we're estimating that around 10 million of them (or 1,150%) are carrying iPhones. Throw in ridiculous topography and monstrous buildings, and it starts to get tough to properly blanket the entire area in radio waves.
Thus, it should come as no surprise that San Francisco is one of the first cities to be getting AT&T's cell-tower-in-a-box, the 3G MicroCell. AT&T just hit us up to let us know that we should start seeing the little router-sized, broadband-powered signal boosters on the shelves in their San Francisco stores beginning today.

People might not be buying houses and cars at the pre-recession levels, but laptops are flying off the shelves led by
