Nokia N900 video shows off 3D gaming, YouTube shenanigans, and more
Posted on October 9, 2009 | No Comments
Not satisfied with a video of the Nokia N900's browser, an in-depth look at its Maemo 5 operation system, or even a glimpse of it playing the odd SNES game? Then fear not, 'cause the device is on the scene at the now-happening Maemo Summit, and it's thankfully been caught on video once again for those not lucky enough to be in attendance. Highlights this time around include a look at the device's 3D gaming capabilities (demoed with a Marble Madness-type game called Bounce Evolution), and a demonstration of the device not only playing YouTube videos in a browser, but within a thumbnail in the Maemo interface -- not exactly the most practical thing in the world, but it sure is impressive on a mobile device. Head on past the break to see the whole thing for yourself.

The first, obviously, is to remove the battery from the device... unless you have an iPhone, at which point you can thank Apple for choosing form over function.

Verizon Wireless slashes most smartphone prices to $99
Posted on August 3, 2009 | No CommentsHuzzah! Verizon knows what's up. The prices of its smartphones have been slashed, cut, and discounted down to iPhone 3G levels. Every single smartphone - expect for the new BlackBerry Tour and Samsung Saga - can be had for $99 or less on-contract. This means that the HTC Touch Diamond, HTC Touch Pro, and Samsung Omnia are now only $99 straight up. It's like Verizon is talking right to those feed up with AT&T's shenanigans.

Adobe Lightroom Updated, New DNG Spec Allows Lens Correction in Software
Posted on June 24, 2009 | No CommentsWe cover a lot of new cameras here at Gadget Lab, and if you go right out and buy them, often you’ll find you can’t actually do much with the pictures (unless the camera shoots JPEG only, in which case this is not the post you’re looking for. Move along). Manufacturers’ software is almost uniformly [...] -
E3 2009 coverage starts tomorrow
Posted on May 31, 2009 | No Comments
Time sure does fly. It’s been a whole year since Devin and I popped our E3 cherries and we find ourselves back in LA for what is expected to be a return to glory for the Electronic Entertainment Expo. Not much going on today except for a few parties, but I did pass the convention center on my way to the hotel and noticed that Ubisoft and Sony dropped crazy money on signage.
