iPhone 4 pre-orders now shipping
Posted on June 20, 2010 | No CommentsWe're still trying to puzzle out the mystery of why some iPhone 4 pre-orders have been randomly canceled, but there's good news for the rest of the 600,000 people who managed to get past Apple's ordering issues last week: the newest iPhone is now shipping. We haven't gotten our ship notification email yet, but judging from our tip jar plenty of other people have -- we'll see if anyone's lucky enough to score an early delivery.

Square working on ‘a credit processing and risk issue’ before shipping more card readers
Posted on June 19, 2010 | No CommentsIf you've tried to get in on Square's mobile payment system, you know that a critical part of the whole setup is the tiny credit card reader that plugs into your phone's headphone jack -- and in all likelihood, you don't have it. The company just sent out a message to those who've signed up for their service today, saying that a prior hardware shortage is resolved but that it's only half of the problem; the other half, and arguably a more serious one, is that the company needs to find a way to "handle the huge demand for readers and still manage the risk of chargebacks and fraud." So far, those risks have been mitigated by setting limits very low, but customers have apparently complained that they're too low, which is requiring a "rethinking and expanding" of the company's underwriting. Everyone's being assured that they'll be good to go once this whole process is over and clients go through a credit check -- but in the meantime, Square readers might be a little scarce, so it's back to IOUs and pocket change for a while. See the full letter after the break.Square working on 'a credit processing and risk issue' before shipping more card readers originally appeared on Engadget on Sat, 19 Jun 2010 10:23:00 EST. Sprint EVO 4G will ship with storage bug
Posted on June 4, 2010 | No Comments
Uh-oh! It seems that the super-fab (but electrically challenged) Sprint EVO 4G will be shipping with an unintentional stow-away.
Reports are floating around the net that some users who received their EVOs at Google I/O the other week are unable to save files to the MicroSD card. Instead, they get a permission error.

Samsung Wave shipping with infected microSD card (confirmed, limited to first run)
Posted on June 2, 2010 | No CommentsDid you get a Samsung Wave today, or perhaps early last week? You might not want to connect it to your computer, just in case. We're hearing anecdotal reports that the 1GB microSD card shipped with certain German units includes a nasty surprise: it automatically installs the trojan Win32/Heur using the file "slmvsrv.exe." While we're not sure exactly what the virus does or if it's widespread, there's no point in finding out the hard way, right? Install a good antivirus program and then format that sucker, or better yet, simply drop in a larger microSDHC card. Don't forget this thing plays DivX HD, people -- you're going to need more than a single gigabyte of storage.
Update: Samsung HQ got in touch with MobileBurn to confirm the existence of the virus in shipping S8500 Wave handsets, but said that the outbreak was confined to the German market's initial production run and all other shipments are A-OK. Still, there's no harm in disabling autorun before connecting one to your PC, eh?Samsung Wave shipping with infected microSD card (confirmed, limited to first run) originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 02 Jun 2010 07:10:00 EST. White BlackBerry Bold 9700 now shipping at T-Mobile for $100
Posted on May 28, 2010 | No Comments
As promised, T-Mobile has now taken the white version of its BlackBerry Bold 9700 to retail. Along with the already-available black version, the 9700 goes out the door for $99.99 on contract after rebate, merely half of what the carrier was asking for the phone when it launched late last year -- and a price that makes the much lower-end Curve 8520 a less compelling buy, if we do say so ourselves. Interestingly, these guys are still selling the G1, and it goes for exactly the same price; which would you rather have?White BlackBerry Bold 9700 now shipping at T-Mobile for $100 originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Fri, 28 May 2010 03:28:00 EST. Ooma Bluetooth Adapter ships, unites cellphone and VoIP in holy matrimony
Posted on May 24, 2010 | No CommentsThe home VoIP gurus over at Ooma have started shipping their Bluetooth Adapter, a $29.95 dongle that you plug into your Telo to make awesome things happen. The accessory actually works two totally different ways: it makes it so that you can answer Ooma calls on your Bluetooth headset, and it also acts as a handsfree for your cellphone, letting you answer mobile calls on any landline receiver in your house -- a pretty neat trick, if you ask us. The adapter's only available online through Ooma's site for the moment; follow the break for the company's full press release.Continue reading Ooma Bluetooth Adapter ships, unites cellphone and VoIP in holy matrimony
