HTC Aria review
Posted on June 17, 2010 | No CommentsIt's sort of hard to believe, but AT&T finally has an Android phone worth paying attention to. Mind you, the AT&T compatible Nexus One is easily the best Googlephone on America's largest GSM operator, but this is the first one that the company has bothered to brand and sell on a subsidized plan within its own stores. Pundits could argue the reasons why forever, but considering that the carrier's doing all it can just to keep up with the demand for iPhones, it's hard to imagine that AT&T has been longing to pursue Android with reckless abandon. Believe it or not, it's been over 1.5 years since T-Mobile gave the world the first taste of a mobile OS that would soon rival (and surpass) the other options already on the table, but outside of the forgettable Backflip (and the nowhere-to-be-found Aero), there's been no Android to speak of on AT&T. HTC has somehow managed to break down the blue and orange walls, piercing the heart of a hardened operator and squeezing a delightful mid-range Android smartphone into a lineup that's about to be monumentally overshadowed by the iPhone 4. So, is the HTC Aria worth the $129.99 that you'll be forced to pay on a 2-year agreement when it ships on June 20th? Read on to find out.

AT&T sold out of iPhone 4 pre-orders for launch day
Posted on June 15, 2010 | No CommentsBGR's reporting that AT&T's launch day allocation of iPhone 4s is now sold out, and anyone who got in the door after 1:30PM Pacific Time will get their unit some time between June 25 and July 5. Frankly, we have no idea how anyone managed to get a pre-order in, let alone enough to sell out -- but everyone who did deserves a pat on the back and a high-five.
Update: We've gotten the official statement from AT&T, and it's true, though you still might be able to waltz in on launch day without a pre-order and pick up one of the unallocated units:
"Because of the incredible interest in iPhone 4, today was the busiest online sales day in AT&T history. As of Tuesday afternoon, customers who preorder iPhone 4 moving forward will receive their device on June 25 or later, depending on when the order is placed. We'll email customers with confirmation once their order is placed, and again when it ships. Want Safari Reader functionality in Firefox or Google Chrome? Try Readability (it’s quite good).
Posted on June 8, 2010 | No CommentsAside from the usual under-the-hood improvements, Safari 5 ships with a new feature called Safari Reader. The concept is simple enough: you're reading text on a Web site but don't want to be distracted by terrible page layouts and extraordinarily annoying animated advertisements. You activate Reader, then the browser isolates the text and applies a far more readable formatting to the text. The result is much cleaner text, and text that doesn't destroy your eyes trying to read. The best part is that you don't need the new Safari to replicate the same functionality. I speak, of course, about Readablity.

Posted on May 24, 2010 | No CommentsThe home VoIP gurus over at Ooma have started shipping their Bluetooth Adapter, a $29.95 dongle that you plug into your Telo to make awesome things happen. The accessory actually works two totally different ways: it makes it so that you can answer Ooma calls on your Bluetooth headset, and it also acts as a handsfree for your cellphone, letting you answer mobile calls on any landline receiver in your house -- a pretty neat trick, if you ask us. The adapter's only available online through Ooma's site for the moment; follow the break for the company's full press release.

Just to show they're serious, they also let us play with the phone, which is running a speedy, heavily custom Garmin UI on top of Android. Nvidia commits to simultaneous desktop-laptop driver releases

This isn't such a big deal for desktop users, what with their fancy GTX 480s, but laptop users won't have to wait for the Dells and HPs of the world to release updated drivers. The just-announced Corsair Reactor and Nova product lines are SSDs, not UFP starships

Corsair isn't a new player in the SSD game, but it has some new entries for your consideration. The Reactor and Nova series are both solid performers, but offer slightly different benefits for different users. While the speedy Nova series zips files along at 270MB/s (read) and 195MB/s (write) thanks to the Indilinx Bareboot controller, the Reactor models have slightly slower speeds of 250/170MB/s but has a USB 2.0 connector built-in for added connectivity.
