Stargate Universe season 1.5 trailer
Posted on March 11, 2010 | No CommentsI’m still in shock that the beings above are apparently going to let Smallville surpass SG-1’s record. Oh well. But here’s the trailer for the second half of Stargate Universe’s first season. Here’s hoping that the second half is a bit more like the Stargate of old. Too bad I’ll end up watching it even [...] -
Shock: Sony invites devs to make games for the PS3
Posted on February 18, 2010 | No CommentsFlash: Sony executive is bullish about the PS3! The Wii—you've heard of it, yes? Years ago, it was hard to find because it was massively popular. You could find one on eBay, but for like $8 million. Nowadays? Not so much. Games like New Super Mario Bros. Wii will sell, sure, but third-party publishers are finding out: Hey, our games aren't selling too well here...

Avatar has made more than $1 billion. That’s a lot of dollars.
Posted on January 4, 2010 | No CommentsPretty sure none of us here ever said that Avatar would tank at the box office, but did we think it'd make a billion dollars in just a few days? I sure didn't! (To be fair, I never really gave the topic much thought.) But yes, wipe the look of shock off your face as it's now revealed that the James Cameron film made $1.02 billion in three weeks. That includes international receipts, too. That's a nice chunk of change.

Recognizing XM Channel 202’s excellence, 2009 edition
Posted on December 31, 2009 | No CommentsLast year's Satellite Radio Awards were a smashing success, so let's do it again! Only this time I'm throwing out the idea of handing out awards to the whole of satellite radio (and these awards are obviously just for fun), and instead will focus my energies on the channel that I spend 99 percent of my time tuned into: XM Channel 202 The Virus. If It weren't for 202 I would have killed my subscription some time ago.

Shock study: Wii Fit alone won’t get you into shape (nor is it supposed to, by the way)
Posted on December 17, 2009 | No CommentsShocking study coming out of the University of Minnesota that says Wii Fit won't get you into shape, despite what you may think. Well, to be specific, the study says the game won't produce “significant changes in daily physical activity, muscular fitness, flexibility, balance or body composition.”

UK T-Mobile customer data sold to cold callers, responsible staff to be prosecuted
Posted on November 17, 2009 | No CommentsLet's be honest, who here is actually surprised that underpaid and overworked data workers would sell on our details for a few extra quid? Given the number of uninvited calls to our unlisted phone numbers, we know for a fact that somebody has been dishing our personal contacts to those Nigerian princes and caring loan consolidators, so it's no shock to learn that T-Mobile employees have been fingered for committing the deed and are now facing prosecution. We're told that inappropriately leaked information made its way into the hands of brokers, who then "cold-called the customers as their contracts were due to expire" without T-Mob's knowledge. Disappointed by the failure of current fines to discourage such illegal information trade, British Justice Minister Michael Wills has even called for "custodial sentences" to be levied against the poor slobs responsible. So, if you're scoring at home, that's now two black eyes for T-Mobile when it comes to keeping our data safe. For shame.UK T-Mobile customer data sold to cold callers, responsible staff to be prosecuted originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Tue, 17 Nov 2009 18:09:00 EST. Shock: Men are loathe to read instruction manuals, women have no such qualms
Posted on November 13, 2009 | No CommentsSo I was browsing Pravda, as I do from time to time, when I stumbled upon this fascinating story. It seems that women are far more likely to read a gadget's instruction manual than men. It's the old, “men never ask for directions” bit, yes.

BlackBerry Bold 2 set for November 11 T-Mobile launch?
Posted on October 9, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, RIM, ATT, T-Mobile, BlackBerry OS
The word on the street is that the BlackBerry Bold 2 (aka 9700, aka Onyx) will be heading to T-Mobile -- and, subsequently, into the hands and hearts of the eager American public -- on November 11. This would seem to jibe with talk of AT&T and T-Mobile coming out parties slated for October 21, although we'll have to wait for an official announcement. On the other hand, we have seen enough of this device over the months that it would be a shock if its debut was anything less than imminent. Ms. Yuki must be ecstatic.

Extraordinary rendition is still happening to Speak&Spells right now, write your Congressman
Posted on September 22, 2009 | No Comments
What you are about to see will shock you. Our allies overseas are being given broken Speak&Spells for full interrogation and their techniques are as far from the Geneva Convention laws as you can imagine. After stripping out most of the lower part of the device, these interrogators are forcing the Speak&Spells to perform unnatural acts, some that turn the stomach.
Touching the word "Speak" turns the unit on. "Spell" triggers a random letter. "&" triggers a random glitch sound. The touch pads to the right trigger a really crazy hold/distortion effect. This is one of the most interesting effects I've found in a Speak&Spell in years. The strip below changes the pitch. This doesn't actually utilize a transistor. I simply wired the pad to the pitch base on the circuit.

Shock: High school student whose Kindle 1984 was deleted sues Amazon
Posted on July 31, 2009 | No CommentsYears from now, people will look back on the year 2009 as the year A) Apple lost the goodwill of a sizable chunk of the Internet audience; and B) when a high school kid sued Amazon because it remotely deleted an illegal copy of 1984. The kid is suing because he annotated the copy of the book, and now is without said notes. So of course, sue right?
Oh,
