Hell freezes over: Verizon CTO Dick Lynch joins GSMA’s board
Posted on June 21, 2010 | No Comments
Of course, seeing how Verizon was one of the earliest and most staunch supporters of LTE in the mobile operator world, it comes as no huge shocker that Big Red has earned itself a seat on the GSM Association's 26 member- and 13 carrier-strong board of directors -- especially now that it's a full, card-carrying member of the GSMA as a whole -- but still, feels a bit weird, doesn't it? From a PR perspective, we're figuring Verizon wanted to have this wrapped up before it stages its first commercial 4G launches later this year, but at any rate, it's official: you're now welcome to call Verizon "a GSM carrier. What about you, Sprint? Follow the break for the full press release.Continue reading Hell freezes over: Verizon CTO Dick Lynch joins GSMA's board

HTC EVO 4G sold out pretty much everywhere
Posted on June 8, 2010 | No CommentsIt's being widely reported that the HTC EVO 4G is sold out all over the US -- at brick and mortars and online. And while we can't 100 percent certain that Sprint doesn't have a few hidden away in some of the less traversed pockets of this great land, the fact that they're selling out shouldn't come as a huge shocker. The phone overtook the Palm Pre to become Sprint's best-selling launch day ever, though we don't have an actual number of units moved. Be sure to let us know in comments if your local store has any left -- we'll be sure to stampede over there.HTC EVO 4G sold out pretty much everywhere originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 08 Jun 2010 16:08:00 EST. That’s what you get when you click random links: Facebook scam promises nude photos of Paramore’s Hayley Williams
Posted on June 3, 2010 | No CommentsMatt invited us to a Facebook party last week, something along the lines of "CLICK HERE FOR A FREE IPAD~!" Now, I knew this was malware-related because I know Matt knows I wouldn't want an iPad—free or otherwise. Clearly something smelled fishy here. The point is, even so-called techies can be the victim of malware. There's a new scam going around Facebook right now that, while not malicious right now, could well mutate into something not very nice with the flick of a switch.

HP Taiwan VP confirms webOS plans, indicates the Slate is on track for 2010 launch
Posted on May 21, 2010 | No CommentsWell this is good to know. An HP Taiwan VP apperently let it slip that HP is working on mobile devices powered by webOS. It’s a shocker, I know. You would think that after HP spent over a billion dollars buying Palm, they would archive all of the acquired intellectual properties and keep moving forward [...] -
Shocker: The official Xbox 360 flash drive is overpriced
Posted on March 30, 2010 | No Comments
Well, we can't say we didn't see this coming, but the official SanDisk Xbox 360 flash drive cost $40 -- for 8GB. Yeah, that's a little expensive considering 8GB can be had for less than half of that. Thankfully Microsoft actually did something pro-consumer for a change and is allowing any ol' flash drive up to 32GB work the same way.

Ovi Maps: 1.4 million downloads to date, averaging a download per second
Posted on February 3, 2010 | No Comments
I'm starting to suspect people like free stuff - a shocker, I know.
Nokia says the new version of Ovi Maps that includes free walk and drive navigation has been downloaded over 1.4 million times since its introduction on 21 January 2010.
Nokia says the 1 million mark was reached after just one week following the launch, and the company's Executive VP Anssi Vanjoki adds that they're currently seeing 'a download a second, 24 hours a day'.

Survey shocker: 75 percent of respondents’ Xbox 360s died within 18 months of purchase
Posted on November 18, 2009 | No CommentsLook at CNET, breaking news left and right. The site ran a little survey asking its UK readers how many times their video game consoles crashed. No surprise: the Xbox 360 leads the pack with a full 60 percent of heaving died (due to the red ring of death). The PS3 comes in at 16 percent (yellow light of death?), and the Wii is only 6 percent.

And the Left 4 Dead 2 boycott, how’s that going?
Posted on November 17, 2009 | No CommentsIt turned out that a lot of those so-called Modern Warfare 2 protesters were talking jive, as they played the game late into the night, alone with their hypocrisy. (It's overdramatic Tuesday, by the way.) How did the Left 4 Dead II protesters do?

Nokia announces the end of its N-Gage gaming platform
Posted on October 30, 2009 | No Comments
Nokia has officially announced that it will put an end to its problem-plagued N-Gage gaming service, integrating it into its Ovi Store. The move isn't really a shocker, and while Nokia has confirmed that no further games will be published, it's also said that it will continue to sell currently available games in the Ovi Store (as of today) until the end of September 2010. The N-Gage website, which holds the Arena and community boards, will also continue until that time. Nokia says that any already purchased games will continue to run on the mobile device, but that any connected community features will be non-functional come 2010.

Spain’s iPhone 3GS Plans as Bad as Old 3G Plans
Posted on June 19, 2009 | No CommentsToday, you may be aware, is the day that the iPhone 3G S launches just about everywhere. Last year, Spain’s Telefónica (or, more correctly, its mobile arm Movistar) messed up terribly, first by letting lines form outside stores which had no handsets, yet still enjoying the free publicity from TV crews, and later by offering [...]
