Wherein tenuous links are made between BioShock and two new Ayn Rand biographies

Working under the assumption that many of you have played BioShock, I point you in the direction of this week's issue of The New Yorker, which has a quick review of two Ayn Rand biographies that may interest you. It's pretty funny because while the game's story, which is unreservedly great, is in part inspired by the Rand novel “Atlas Shrugged,” the New Yorker review doesn't miss a beat in calling the author, well, a hack.

Mamiya announces two new DSLR cameras

Mamiya announced two new DSLR cameras today, the DM22 and DM28. Pushing the megapixel wall again, DM22 is 22 megapixel, and the DM28 is, you guessed it, a 28 megapixel. Both cameras use the stock Mamiya lenses so if you are already a Mamiya shooter, you're set.

  • A new Nikon is coming but we don’t know what it is

A new Nikon is coming but we don’t know what it is

This Nikon rumor is about as vague as it gets. All it states is that within the next weeks, there will be a new Nikon camera announced and it's not the D700x/D700s. It also states that the model will be something entirely new for Nikon and not a replacement. Nikon Rumors is thinking that this camera *might* be something like the new Leica X1, which seems plausible.

Resident Evil (Biohazard in Japan) - The Darkside Chronicles is an on-rails shooter that comes out in Nippon for the Wii on January 14. It contains cut scenes, gameplay sequences and a few spoilers - you've been warned.

Leica comes clean, announces the M9 and X1

Finally. It seems like there have been a dozen leaks about the Leica M9 and X1 the last couple of weeks, but they are finally announced. It's too bad that the leaks killed all the fun and announced everything already though. The new M9, which should be available this week, features a very similar body as the M8, but now rocks a 18MP full frame CCD sensor along new button placement for quick access to important settings. Plus, it has new micro lens that should help with performance at the edges of the frame and further justify the £4,850 inc VAT ($8,000 USD) price.

  • Sony goes full-frame with the α850 DSLR, will ship this fall

Sony goes full-frame with the α850 DSLR, will ship this fall

It seems a little unnecessary but (there's a sucker born every second, right?) the 24.6-megapixel full-frame Exmor CMOS sensor equipped α850 is being geared towards “a broader group of consumers,” says Kristen Elder, the Director of Digital Imaging at Sony. Before you raise an eyebrow and ask why Sony has another full-frame DSLR when the α900 is top dog, ask me how much the α850 is going to be. It’s coming in under $2000, which is $700 cheaper than the α900.
