  • Don’t Buy The HTC EVO, It Is A Seriously Flawed Device

Don’t Buy The HTC EVO, It Is A Seriously Flawed Device

Let's start things off with a disclaimer - I love Android phones. Last year I left the iPhone and switched to Android largely because of the amazing usefulness of Google Voice, and only Android devices truly let you take over your phone with a Google Voice app and have the perfect experience. I have extensively tested nearly all Android phones to date. Around TechCrunch I'm the die hard Android Fan (Jason Kincaid is a close second). MG Siegler irrationally loves the iPhone and it has become an important fashion accessory and self confidence crutch in his San Francisco hipster lifestyle. I'm pretty sure Apple could remove the iPhone's ability to make calls entirely and MG would still find a way to love it. You can read his review of iPhone 4 here. Summary: "It's Awesome."

Sprint officially kicks off sales of the HTC EVO 4G

"History will be made across the nation as anxious customers get their hands on America’s first 3G/4G wireless phone, HTC EVO 4G, packed with industry-leading features." A little over the top right there, but anyway: you can now purchase the HTC EVO 4G at Sprint.com, Sprint retail stores, at RadioShack, Best Buy and Walmart. The device sells for $199.99 with a two-year service agreement and after a $100 mail-in rebate with a new line activation or upgrade.

  • Android 2.2’s Froyo goodness hitting the Nexus One already? (update: just press so far)

Android 2.2’s Froyo goodness hitting the Nexus One already? (update: just press so far)

Android 2.2's FroYo goodness hitting the Nexus One already?
digg_url = 'http://digg.com/software/Android_2_2_Froyo_everything_you_ever_wanted_to_know'; Sometimes it's good to be the chosen child, the special one, and in the eyes of Google the Nexus One is that special phone -- at least for the moment. As such it seems to have been given a special treat: access to Froyo, earlier than expected. TechCrunch's MG Siegler is reporting that his handset received Android 2.2 overnight. So far we're not hearing too many other reports of folks seeing this update, but that could be thanks to everyone sleeping off a week of exciting announcements. Sound off in comments if you're waking up to this frosty, low-calorie snack.

Update: We're not sure how this is being rolled out, as hardly anyone is seeing updates, but via Droidnytt we found a number of reports on Twitter that people are indeed seeing the update.

Update 2: Count us among the lucky few who just received the OTA Froyo update, to our original T-Mobile-based device.

Update 3: We've done some additional investigation, and as far as we can tell, Google is only updating review Nexus Ones that had been provided to the press -- not off-the-shelf phones. We'll stay on this and let you know more as soon as we do.

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

    Begun, the phone wars have

Readers who follow us regularly know that MG Siegler and I have a difference of opinion when it comes to phones. He’s an iPhone guy, I’m now an Android man. Our verbal jousts to date have been in good fun, but there is an undertone of seriousness that needs to be resolved, one way or another. [...]
