TomTom Go Live 1000 blurs the line between PND and connected tablet
Posted on April 27, 2010 | No Comments
The dedicated GPS market is slowly but steadily shrinking as smartphones gain the same abilities, but yet the major players keep rolling out new devices. The TomTom Go Live 1000 bucks the trend of a semi-smart connected device and instead adds a ton of storage on top of a powerful setup to run a WebKit-based UI along with a ton of connected apps. This just might be the PND we've been waiting for -- too bad it's a few years late.

Lenovo adds Sprint 3G and 4G to the ThinkPad lineup
Posted on March 25, 2010 | No Comments
Lenovo ThinkPads have offered 3G access for a while now but soon Sprint 3G and 4G WiMAX will be available as well. All buyers will need to do is select the Sprint access during the ordering process and their fancy new notebook will arrive with a Sprint SIM card already installed. It's then just a matter of firing up the Lenovo Access Connection tool to start the service. Of course Sprint will want a monthly service charge as well, but hopefully you can con your company into picking up the tab under the guise of "mobile productivity".Middle mangers love that type of talk.

Best Buy now hawking Viliv’s wares
Posted on March 21, 2010 | No Comments
Viliv makes some hot, little portables. That's a fact. The X70 and S5 touchscreen along with the S7 convertible netbook are among the best in their respective niche markets. But previously the products were only available from online retailers, which of course limits their visibility from a whole segment of potential customers. Starting Monday though, Best Buy shoppers will be able to pick up the products in store and online. There will even be an instant rebate available on the none-3G modem-equipped models.

SK Telecom stuffs Android, CPU, and memory into a SIM card
Posted on February 17, 2010 | No CommentsThink about the size of an SD card. What things could you design in that amount of space? I think I might be able to build a stick figure out of tooth picks in a space that size. It probably wouldn’t even be very good. Perhaps just to show that they can (or perhaps because they [...] -
T-Mobile loosens SIM unlock policies, travelers rejoice
Posted on January 19, 2010 | No Comments
Traveling overseas can be such a pain - there's just so much to remember. Did you board the dogs? Did you turn the oven off? Did you remind your fight club buddies that your basement would be unavailable that week? Did you remember to get your handset unlocked by T-mobile so you could use a different SIM card overseas?

Dell’s 5-inch Android MID leaks out
Posted on October 21, 2009 | No Comments
It looks like Dell’s rumored slightly-larger-than-an-iPod-touch Android MID that we heard about back in late June has finally seen the light of day.
Apparently called the Dell Streak (I hope that’s not the final product name), it's a 5-inch mobile internet device similar to the recently-released Archos 5 Internet Tablet with the added functionality of 3G wireless data connectivity.

Nokia Booklet hands-on and pictures
Posted on October 13, 2009 | No Comments
As we promised, we got you pictures and a hand-on review of the newly released Nokia Booklet 3G. Hi-res versions at the end.
Sagem's SIMFi is one of those ideas that you wish you had come up with yourself. The concept is pretty straightforward: they've created a SIM card with an embedded WiFi radio, so provided you have a suitable data plan, the card itself puts out a WiFi signal instead of relying on the phone. For anyone who's ever needed internet access on a laptop, with no other tools besides the phone in their pocket, this is a potential godsend. Tethering a handset to a computer for internet access used to occur on a strictly phone-by-phone basis. Have a BlackBerry? Read a few tutorials and you're pretty much set. Ditto for the iPhone, and most Android and Windows Mobile devices. But where does that leave you if all you've got in your pocket is a
