The Notion Ink Adam tablet is set for a June ‘10 release

A random tablet broke from a random company named Notion Ink a week ago. The thing looked almost too good with an NVIDIA Tegra T20 chipset. Like Vaperware good. But the Adam (that's the product name) seems to be scheduled for a June 2010 launch according to a report by The Hindu. Who knows, we might actually see this thing, but chances are six months from now it will not look nearly as tantalizing.

Shocking study coming out of the University of Minnesota that says Wii Fit won't get you into shape, despite what you may think. Well, to be specific, the study says the game won't produce “significant changes in daily physical activity, muscular fitness, flexibility, balance or body composition.”

Real world shots of the xpPhone trickle out, video coming “soon”

Outside of hardware renders and a few prototype appearances at trade shows, there aren't a whole lot of photos of the nearly mythical xpPhone -- the phone that runs Windows XP or, according to the manufacturer, Windows 7 -- floating around. In fact, after hearing next to nothing beyond talks of pre-orders in almost six months, I'd begun to wonder if this thing actually existed. Today, the manufacturer ITG released real world shots of their latest product sample, color-customized in white/green. They also add that "More videos of real sample will come out soon", which might just mean this thing is gettin' close to production. One more shot after the jump.

Law firm asks, ‘Were you banned from Xbox Live? We want to help.’

It's safe to say that we hear at CrunchGear think you should be able to do whatever you want with hardware that you buy. Let's take console modding. You wanna flash the drive on your 360 for whatever reason? Fine, go ahead. But don't think that you can log onto Xbox Live with said modded console, and play your misbegotten wares (or is that warez?), on Microsoft's network. It's against the TOS, it makes a mockery of the entertainment medium that you purport to support, and, well, is unfair to the other players.

Samsung Bada phone to be announced first half of next year

We're still not entirely sure why Samsung feels the need to launch its own mobile operating system while still cranking out Android and Windows Mobile devices, but it seems like things are going full steam ahead: a spokesperson told CNET Asia today that a Bada phone would arrive in the first half of 2010. Sure, that sounds like a long time off, but really it's just six months after the big Bada SDK reveal in December, so we'll have to see if that's enough time for developers to sort things out and release any apps.

    [Thanks, Siobhan]

Sports Authority to sell the Wii because, well, it’s an exercise device

Next time you're at Sports Authority applying for a hunting license, you could pick up replacement Wii Remote or even the Wii Fit as the retailer is getting into the gaming business. But seriously, this kind of makes sense and has apparently been in the works for months.

Where were the games? Ubisofts sales down 52 percent for first half of FY2009-2010

Looks like Ubisoft hasn't had a great couple of months, either. The France-based publisher reported today a 52 percent decline in sales for the six months that ended on September 30 compared to the same period last year. (Fiscal years tend to begin in March.) A 52 percent drop translates to €166 million, or around $246 million.

China Unicom hits a million 3G users, only sells 5,000 iPhones so far

Nearly six months after large-scale trials kicked off, China Unicom -- the only carrier among China's nationals to be deploying HSPA -- has broken the magical million-subscriber mark that have made the leap to its "Wo" 3G network. If you're wondering whether the recent launch of the iPhone on Wo has contributed to that count, the answer is a definitive "no" -- amazingly, a mere 5,000 units have apparently been sold so far, likely due to the phone's prohibitive cost and the availability of unlocked devices and interesting alternatives. Be that as it may, the carrier seems convinced that the iPhone will contribute to Unicom's bottom line in the fourth quarter, countered by continued marketing and build-out costs for Wo. Networks aren't cheap -- particularly when you're dealing with a country the size (and population density) of China.

Acer’s beTouch and neoTouch smartphone series made official

It feels like these phones have been on sale for a solid six months for some weird reason, but in reality, Acer's 2009 line of WinMo 6.5 devices -- including the range-topping F1 -- are finally out and about with shiny new names to boot. As we'd previously heard, the Snapdraon-powered F1 is actually going to market as the S200 and will sit in the high-end neoTouch range, while the E100, E101, and E200 will slum it down in the beTouch series. All four are touch-equipped and range in price from £159 to £295 ($259 to $481) at retail, and when you consider that they're all fully unlocked and unbranded, that may not be so bad of a deal -- particularly for that sexy S200 up there.

Giganews crosses the 400-day binary retention mark (but won’t stop there)

Six months ago, Giganews announced that it would expand its server capacity to 365 days of retention. It passed that barrier some time ago, and just yesterday reached the magical 400-day mark. In plain English, that means if someone posted Some File to alt.binaries.boneless back in July, 2008, you should be able to find it on Giganews' servers. And to think, back in my early days of Usenet use (2001ish), I was putting up with two days retention.
