BlackBerry Curve, iPhone, and Moto Droid lead smartphone sales in Q4 2009
Posted on February 8, 2010 | No CommentsMarket research firm IDC has just released their quarterly report on the top selling smartphones (or “converged mobile devices”, as they call them) in the US for the fourth quarter of 2009. RIM and Apple dominate the list in an almost absurd manner, but a few welcome surprises managed to sneak their way in. Want to [...] -
Hands-on with Kodak’s Playsport and Slice Cameras
Posted on January 8, 2010 | No CommentsKodak showed us their clever little Slice and Playsport cameras. The Slice is a touchscreen point and shoot and the SportPlay is a completely waterproof mini-camcorder. Both aren’t quite ready and will be available in the Spring of this year but both are pretty cool. The Slice has a large rear screen with touch controls. [...] -
The Beat Thang Music Production System.
Posted on December 15, 2009 | No Comments
Remember when using z's on the end of plural words instead of s's was edgy and revolutionary? Well, apparently no one told Beat Kangz Electronics that that time has passed. Misguided syntax choices aside, Beat Kangz has just announced the release of their new Beat Thang music production system. Not only does it look like something the Covenant would use, it comes in either software form or with its own dedicated hardware.

Kohjinsha’s futuristic dual-screen notebook
Posted on November 27, 2009 | No Comments
Maybe it's just me, but this dual-screen notebook Kojinsha started selling in Japan today [JP] looks very futuristic (and very cool) to me. The main selling point is that you get not one but two 10.1-inch LCD screens in a compact body (size: 280×210×19〜42mm, weight: 1.84kg). And you can even buy the DZ6KH16E, which looks like a normal notebook when you use just one of the screens, if you live outside Japan.

Google’s Being Picky About Who Gets To See Android 2.0
Posted on October 26, 2009 | No Comments
Well, this is a bit of a strange twist. For the first few months after launch, the development mentality surrounding Android was a developer's dream. Huge chunks of the operating system were made open source, the development team was pleasantly transparent, and the roadmap clearly sketched out the trails ahead. Then they released Donut, and all went more-or-less mum. It was no secret that Android 2.0, codenamed Eclair was to follow - but what such updates would contain was anybody's guess.
Well, Google's finally ready to share the innards of Eclair with the world. And by "world", we mean a small group of developers hand-picked to attend an invite-only, NDA-required development event.

Dynabook MX/43 and MX/33: New netbooks from Toshiba
Posted on October 13, 2009 | No Comments
Toshiba's 18-4-inch laptop Qosmio G60, which the company announced today, is quite cool, but at $3,200, it may be a bit too pricey for most of us. And sometimes, a smaller laptop does the job, too. So it's good to know Toshiba has some (relatively) affordable netbooks among the dozens of new computers the company announced today for the Japanese market.
