Why is World of Warcraft encouraging me to vote?

Well this is a strange one. I just received in the mail (that’s “real” mail, not e-mail) an official letter from the National Association of Secretaries of State encouraging me to take advantage of all these fancy ways of keeping up-to-date with voting information. The letter took great pains to stress that the program, which [...]

  • SIMBox, the texting incontinence pants

    SIMBox, the texting incontinence pants

I’m going to be big about this and not get all giggly. It’s basically an incontinence sensor for folks who, through no fault of their own, can’t tell when they’ve wet themselves. Consisting of a sensor that fits inside the SIMPants (again, not making this up or laughing), the SIMBox has a SIMstrip that senses [...]

  • AT&T data outage in San Francisco?

AT&T data outage in San Francisco?

Reports are flying in -- using WiFi, we suspect -- that AT&T's having a bit of a data and SMS outage in San Francisco. Our own personal experiences confirm the data, although text messages are sending and receiving just fine. According to a tweet found by TechCrunch, customer service is saying it'll take anywhere from 24 to 48 hours to fix -- sounds pretty extreme to us, and unfortunately we can't get ahold of anyone to corroborate. Let's put it to you, Bay Area readers, how's that iPhone working for ya?

  • Sprint pushes OTA bug-fixin’ update to HTC Hero

Sprint pushes OTA bug-fixin’ update to HTC Hero

sprint-htc-heroSprint has pushed out an over-the-air firmware update for its popular HTC Hero 'droid handset. Unfortunately, it has nothing to do with Android 2.0, but it does purportedly fix a pesky SMS bug which has been causing battery drain issues. Oh, and it also helps your favorite Hero play nice with daylight saving time. But apparently, that's just about all the update does.

Sprint pulls piping hot Hero update out of the oven

We don't have details on exactly what has changed yet, but that minor Android 1.5-based update Sprint had announced it'd be pushing out to the Hero has now launched. The best-case scenario would have the SMS issue -- which causes the phone to stay awake when it shouldn't -- get resolved, but until Sprint hands out a proper changelog, it'll be a matter of testing and guessing. Just a thought: if they've managed to squeeze a proximity sensor into the update, that brings 'em up to the speed with the Droid Eris. Hey, it could happen.

Woot Buzz for iPhone ensures you don’t miss the next Bag Of Crap

It’s probably a bit less apparent on this side of the fence than it is over at CrunchGear, but we loves us some Woot around these parts. Where else can you buy a “Bag of Crap” that you’d actually be excited to receive? Thing is, it gets a bit tough to keep up with Woot when [...]

Verizon to launch Nokia 7705 Twist early next week

Thanks to an earlier leaked slide regarding Verizon’s upcoming lineup, we had a good idea that Nokia’s boxy little number, the 7705 Twist, would be joining Big Red’s network sooner than later. Fast forward two weeks and Nokia has officially announced the launch of its 7705 Twist. Besides its unusual shape, the Twist features a, you [...]
