Verizon Motorola Droid gets 2.0.1 software update

Just one month after the release of the Motorola Droid, the first software patch has arrived. Verizon has just begun distributing the OTA update - so if you haven't been alerted already, you should be seeing it before too long. First things first, make sure your device is up to at least a 40% charge (or 20%, if it's currently plugged into a power source), as you won't be able to upgrade otherwise. After that, it's just a matter of waiting around for the update to land on your device - or if you're feelin' antsy, try manually updating ("Home" > "Menu" > "Settings" > "About phone" > "System updates"). Check after the jump for the change log.

Verizon announces software update for Droid Eris coming in 2010

While Verizon might not be shoving the HTC Droid Eris down our throats the same way they are with its Motorola-made sibling, the Droid, the Eris is still one slick little piece of mobile kit. What it lacks in form factor (that is, a physical keyboard), it makes up with its drop-dead-gorgeous Sense UI. The [...]

Upset that your Motorola Cliq is still running Android v1.5? Think the battery life stinks? Motorola’s get a patch for one of those problems, but not the other. Early this morning, Moto began pushing an over-the-air update to Cliq owners. Alas, it doesn’t look like they’ve managed to port the BLUR user interface over to Android [...]

Last.fm Garners Nearly 1 Million New Subscriptions Through Xbox Live

lastfmxboxLast Tuesday, Xbox announced that it would integrate Twitter, Facebook, Zune video compatibility, and Last.fm into its Live services. The software update was free, and has thus far been a success. We recently reported that over 2 million Xbox live subscribers used the Facebook feature from their consoles in the first week. Equally as impressive, is the fact that last.fm has netted nearly 1 million new subscribers from the partnership. Since the introduction of the service, last.fm has seen a record number of new subscribers in a 24 hour period and Live users have streamed over 120 million minutes worth of music to their consoles.

    Nokia N900 is now shipping!

var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/gadgets/Nokia_s_Maemo_powered_N900_is_now_shipping'; Nokia's Maemo-based future has begun: the N900 is shipping. According to Nokia CEO, Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, the eagerly awaited handset is now en route to at least some pre-order customers. We'll soon see if this new generation of Nokia smartphones will be enough to generate the type of mass-market / high-margin appeal that Nokia needs at the top end of its product portfolio or if it's just a tentative first step on a potentially wobbly new platform.

Update: Nokia's official blog says to expect the Maemo 5 device to land in "Europe, the Middle-East, Russia and North America" shortly. However, it won't be compatible with the new 3G SIM cards from 3 in the UK, Ireland, Sweden, Denmark and Austria until a software update hits sometime later this year.

    [Thanks, Juhana J.]

Core i7/i5-powered MacBook Pros on tap?

Okay, so Apple just updated the Mac Mini, iMac, and totally redesigned the white MacBook. But what about the MacBook Pros? PC manufacturers are already stuffing Intel Core i7 and i5 CPUs into their flagship notebooks, but the MacBook Pros are still rocking Core 2 Duos. That might change soon according to the OS X 10.6.2 update.

BlackBerry Storm update landing tomorrow, bringing lots of good stuff (update: now with changelog!)

Hey, you -- yeah you, the BlackBerry Storm owner over there. You listening? Good. That mythical software update we heard about just last week is obviously the real deal, and a screen grab from Verizon's internal systems has shown up to prove it. We're told that it should go live tomorrow (that's October 25th for those in strange, potentially illegitimate time zones) at 6PM. On the whole, it'll make your Storm act a lot more like the forthcoming Storm2, but specifically you can expect a "faster, more accurate and more natural text input experience, word completion, a virtual QWERTY keyboard in portrait view and enhanced sensitivity when editing, copying and pasting." You'll also get the ability to "enable Auto Correction as opposed to Word Completion in landscape view." The full changelog should be coming soon, so hang tight! Oh, and cancel those plans for tomorrow night, okay?

    [Thanks, Anonymous]

Update: Check out the full (purported) changelog after the break!

Apple TV only available in 160GB model now, price drops to $229

Remember Apple TV? It’s still around, there’s just no 40GB version any more. Not that 40GB would hold too much content nowadays anyway, especially with all the HD video available on iTunes and elsewhere. Previously priced at $229 for the 40GB model and $329 for the 160GB model, Apple is now offering just the 160GB model at the old 40GB model’s price of $229.

    AT&T iPhone 3G and 3G S officially getting MMS on September 25

After months of speculation (and frustration) MMS for the iPhone 3G and 3G S is officially arriving on September 25, AT&T has confirmed. This is a full 3 days after summer officially ends (AT&T's original deadline was "late summer") as our own MG pointed out earlier today, but like a lot of things with Apple/AT&T, better late than never. AT&T posted the following comments on its Facebook page:

AT&T and Apple sued for misleading MMS marketing

Great Ceasar's ghost! A woman in Ohio is charging the double-As for breach of contract for… mum… not supplying MMS with the 3.0 firmware. She writes in the lawsuit:
"Millions of customers, as a result of the false and deceptive representations and concealments of Apple and AT&T purchased the 3G and 3GS, waiting for the wonderful day in June 2009 when the new application would be available which would allow MMS," the court filing states. "Unfortunately, after downloading the new 3.0 Software Update application, MMS still did not work on both the 3G and 3GS."
