Your first 3D PS3 games launch tomorrow, including Wipeout HD
Posted on June 9, 2010 | No CommentsOK, Wipeout HD is a fine, fine game, but how will it look in 3D? Probably disappointing, if only because it's going to have to be run in a rubbish resolution in order for the PS3 to create the stereoscopic image. Kvetching aside, Sony will release four stereoscopic 3D games for the PS3 tomorrow: Wipeout HD, Super Stardust, PAIN, and Motor Storm Pacific Rift. You will, of course, need a 3D TV to appreciate the extra dimensionality.

New firmware update: Sony readies PS3 for future 3D games
Posted on April 22, 2010 | No Comments
Sony, which just recently scrapped Linux as an alternate OS for the PS3 with firmware update v3.21, released v3.30 today. The mandatory update neither brings Linux back nor features anything substantial per se (it gives you new sorting options for trophies). But with it, Sony readies the console for future 3D games and other 3D content.

Not 3D but pretty, too: Sony’s seven new LCD TVs
Posted on March 9, 2010 | No CommentsGranted, the seven new LCD (non-3D) TVs Sony announced [JP] in Japan today are not as sexy as their 3D counterparts, but they are worth mentioning, too. The new BRAVIAs break down into three series, the NX800, the HX700 and the HDD-equipped BX-30H. In contrast to the 3D TVs presented today, Sony didn't go into details regarding international sales plans for their 2D models.

Posted on March 9, 2010 | No Comments
Just yesterday, we reported about Panasonic's sales plans for their 3D devices in the US (Samsung is ready, too). And today, Sony has announced [JP] prices and release dates for eight 3D BRAVIA TVs for the Japanese market. The company wants to sell a total of 25 million LCD TVs next fiscal year (a whopping 67% increase from its forecast for the current fiscal year that ends this month), with 3D TVs accounting for 10% of that number.

Sony delays OLED TVs, the world weeps
Posted on August 18, 2009 | No Comments
OLED TVs were in major attendance at this year's CES. Afterall, Sony declared that 2009 was going to be their year. But apparently the marketing flacks and bean counters are on difference softball teams because the thin TVs have been delayed because of Sony's huge profit loses.

Globally speaking, there is one clear leader in the LCD TV business: Samsung. The company commands a 23.2% share in this segment, with Sony (13.7%) and Sharp (7%) almost hopelessly behind (according to
