Did you know there was a Last Starfighter video game?

I don’t know how I missed this a few years ago but did you know there was a fully-featured Last Starfighter videogame made for a documentary on the film. With all this talk of Tron I wanted to check out the other major CG-infused release from my childhood and after watching it (Don’t. You will [...]

Video: Alice in Wonderland movie from 1903

Tim Burton's upcoming Alice in Wonderland movie is getting even us excited. But let's turn back time 107 years for a second to watch the first Alice in Wonderland movie ever made. This version from 1903 (imdb entry), recently restored by the British Film Institute, isn't even 10 minutes long, but it's pretty cool, especially when you consider when the movie was filmed.

Video: Star Wars text crashes down on Earth like alphabetical asteroids

I have NO idea how the text from the opening credits of Star Wars made its way to our galaxy. It’s supposed to all be far, far away! And what are the odds that it’d find its way into Earth’s gravitational pull, only to come raining down on an unassuming suburb? If only the Starship [...]

Giant Gundam statue to make a comeback next year

He'll be back: The awesome 1/1 scale Gundam statue that was erected on Tokyo's artificial island Odaiba in June and that was deconstructed in September this year, will be seen again in its full glory. We reported several times about the statue, which stands 60 feet tall and shows some cool special effects (see video below).

Avatar online ticket sales taking over

So it's sounding like Avatar is going to be breaking some records (shocking, I know). What record is pending you ask? Online ticket sales. Ok, maybe it's not biggest movie ever, or most special effects, but it's still pretty damn impressive.

See a Suzuki GSX-R assemble itself

In an homage to "Sledgehammer" video by Peter Gabriel, novice film director "Noah" and "Noah's Dad" created a stop motion video of their Suzuki motorcycle assembling itself. Stop motion video is often overlooked in this day of CGI and special effects, however it is put to very good use here.

  • Why are we so attracted to disaster movies like 2012

Why are we so attracted to disaster movies like 2012

Here's another topic I'm stealing from Ron and Fez: disaster movies. We sorta discussed this a few times already, but the movie 2012 broke all sorts of records at the weekend. I'd make a big stink about Americans having zero taste, but if I could make $80 zillion per movie sleeping through my lines like the cast of 2012 presumably did, you can guarantee I'd be right there alongside them. That aside, the topic on the radio show was this: what is it about disaster movies that make people so excited?

  • Remove the special effects from the 2012 trailer and this is what you get

Remove the special effects from the 2012 trailer and this is what you get

2012 will be a horribly, bad movie. This clever trailer proves that once you take out all the special effects, you're simply left with John Cusack's acting, which isn't worth whatever the hell they are charging to see movies these days.

Modern Warfare 2 delayed for the PC, Call of Duty trademarked for movie use

Two things: One, the PC release of Modern Warfare 2 has been delayed by a couple of weeks until November 24, 2009. The console versions are still on track of a November 10, 2009 release. Second, Hollywood is apparently in need of an all-American, shoot-'em-up, special effects nightmare of a movie because Activision has trademarked Call of Duty for movie use.

FOTOBOX Plus promises dead simple photo slideshow creation

Interesting. This little doodad is called FOTOBOX Plus. It’s an $80 USB apparatus that reads SD cards from your digital camera. The idea is that you take a bunch of photos on your digital camera and then pop the SD card into the FOTOBOX Plus, which goes into your computer’s USB port. At that point, built-in slideshow software builds an automatic slideshow from your photos.

    Up close with the Mythbusters

PopMech just interviewed the Mythbusters in their M5 headquarters in some strange corner of San Francisco where robots run wild and men have effusive, untamed facial hair. Except for spooky robots guarding the stairs, M5’s second-floor offices could be those of any small company, with cluttered desks, a computer room and a small kitchen. Whiteboards are [...]
