Sony Ericsson prepping a 5-inch Android phone with QWERTY keyboard? (updated)

What we're looking at here is supposedly a Sony Ericsson smartphone, which seems to sport a five-inch screen and a hinged slide-out keyboard like the HTC Shift and the Eking S515. Even if this prototype turns out to be legit, our tipster -- who has a solid track record -- says it's only running on Android 2.1 and that development is in its infancy while low-level drivers are being tested. Well, we can probably wait, except we're also told that internally SE doesn't appear to have any plans for 2.2 yet. Cue the angry tomatoes and eggs, but bring us a PSP phone any day and we'll call off the rally.
Update: We've received word from a second highly-trusted source who says that the display is 5.5 inches (too big to fit in the front pocket), and runs a clean Android 2.1 install. Whatever you say, Sepp. I hope for your sake a Spain or Italy or Brazil don't get knocked out of the tournament because of a controversial coal; you won't hear the end of it.

Augmented reality app Layar hit the App Store in October 2009, only to be withdrawn by the eponymous Dutch developer of the program a month later due to repeated crashes reported by users.
It's been quiet since, but an update for the app just popped up on my iPhone, with the concise and crystal clear description: "We're back!".

Leaked: HTC Bravo looks like a Nexus One with more Sense

Considering that the much heralded Nexus One is being sold as a pure Android experience by Google themselves, it wasn't at all surprising to see that it didn't sport HTC's oh-so-awesome Android interface overhaul, Sense.
Surprising? No. Disappointing? A bit. The 2.1 build of Android that the Nexus One runs is pretty dang solid - but in the end, we're still longing for Sense. Looks like we might be in luck.

iPhone and Windows 7 don’t play nice, Intel P55 chipset to blame
Posted on October 31, 2009 | No CommentsThe iPhone is one of the most wildly popular phones the world has ever seen, while Windows 7 is well on its way to becoming the globe's most ubiquitous OS. So compatibility between the two would be kinda sorta important, right? Tell that to Intel's quality control team who seem to have somehow missed an issue between Apple's app carrier deluxe and the P55 Express chipset's USB controller. Consistent (and persistent) syncing issues have been reported on Apple's support forums, wherein iTunes on Windows 7 machines recognizes the iPhone, but spits out an "error 0xE8000065" message whenever the user attempts to sync. While some have found limited success with using PCI-based USB cards (and bypassing the chipset), this is clearly a major issue and something Apple would expect to be fixed before shipping its Core i5 / i7 iMacs, which are likely to sport the chipset. MSI planning a Tegra-based ebook reader for 2010

Remember that quick story about MSI pondering an ebook reader? Yeah, it seems it is and will be based on Nvidia's Tegra mobile platform. According to Digitimes, the reader will sport a 9-inch grayscale screen and will be out sometime in the first half 2010. That's all. Move along here. Nothing more to see. It's just another ebook reader.

Motorola’s Zeppelin spotted, found to contain Android rather than hydrogen

Last week's blurry little roadmap from Motorola gave us our first glimpse of the codename Zeppelin, and now just a few days later the back half of the thing has floated its way into the hands of someone at DIGI.QQ.com. The Android-powered handset is said to sport a five megapixel camera with flash, WiFi, a 3.1-inch 480 x 320 screen, HDMI output, and, in a first for Android, dual SIM slots marked GSM and CDMA -- technically an R-UIM slot for CDMA, actually, which pretty much limits this thing to China. And indeed, rumor has it release will come behind the Great Wall sometime in the first quarter of next year, with worldwide shipments (of some other variant, we'd imagine) sometime later. Sure, that's a long time to wait if your contract expiration is nigh, but we hear that Droid thing is pretty neat.

It’s time for the MLB to adopt instant replay

I'm a Mets guy, and you just know that, once April hits, you're in for a reasonably OK season, but one that just looses steam as the months go by. So why bother? What I can say, though, is that, given all this evidence, it's about time that baseball adopt the instant replay. Correct calls outweigh everything else. We have the technology!

After some initial investigation, I can’t figure out how you skip tracks on this thing. Can’t figure out the volume either. Shuffle function? Not sure. There seems to be but a single button. Perhaps everything is controlled via a cryptic series of multiple button presses a la the iPod shuffle. Whatever the case, this is the “MP3 Micro Sport” from Thanko.

Vizio just took the wraps off of its hot Internet-connected HDTVs the other day, but the company has a new Blu-ray player coming soon too. The $188 MSRP will probably get price cuts and sales to bring it down to a more "Walmart" level seeing as Blu-ray players have breached the $100 mark. But even around the starting price, this player might not disappoint.
