The Star Wars Kid is back and he’s going to be a lawyer

It was eight years ago that Ghyslain Raza slashed his way into our hearts with his Star Wars Kid video. Sadly, Raza suffered from severe bullying and abuse for his video and eventually ended up in a psychiatric ward for children. However, his video was seen 1 billion times and multiple thousands of geeks came immediately to his defense. While those must have been the worst years of his life, things are now looking up. He and his family sued the kids who leaked the video for $250,000, settled, and that seemed to be the end of it. Now, however, Ghyslain just became the president of the Patrimoine Trois-Rivières, a heritage society dedicated to conserving his hometown in Quebec. He's also working on law degree at McGill in Montreal.

Droid Xtreme struts its solid, metallic stuff

Ever since childhood, I’ve always thought that adding metal to something automatically made it that much cooler. Slap some tin foil on a few paper towel rolls for example, and you’ve got yourself a nifty homemade Star Wars blaster. Ditto for enhancing your punching power with a roll of quarters when facing a bully on [...]

Three variations of the Three Wolves t-shirt meme

The Three Wolves shirt gained fame after it started collecting a bunch of clever reviews, and quickly became a bona fide meme. Once that happened, meta-memes sprang up around it. I liked the broken images variant the best. That is, until today, when I saw the Three Ewok shirt pictured here!

The Star Wars trilogy told in 2:13 with LEGOs

I don't know if it's more sad: someone actually owns that many Star Wars LEGOs or that I'm jealous. Either way, the video is awesome. Well done, kind sirs. Well done.

TomTom releases Star Wars GPS voices on the most appropriate day

Darth Vader, C-3PO, Yoda, and Han Solo will soon yell at you for making a wrong turn and advise you to make the next legal U-turn on your TomTom device. The company just announced plans to out the voice options in Europe and, well, they are simply awesome. Right now Darth Vader is the only one available, but the other three will drop later this summer with C-3PO coming in June, Yoda in July, and Han Solo in August. It's too bad that the voices only seem to be available in Europe market, but maybe there are plans in the works to out them in the states as well. More importantly, may the fourth be with you and click through for Darth Vader's TomTom recording session. It's worth your time.

  • Video: BioWare explains why The Old Republic combat will be super-duper

Video: BioWare explains why The Old Republic combat will be super-duper

It'd take a cataclysmic explosion at Yellowstone to knock World of Warcraft off its perch atop MMO Mountain, but if there's one game that will give it a run for its money it's BioWare's The Old Republic. Two reasons for that: one, it's BioWare, and two, it's Star Wars. Star Wars in the capable hands of BioWare = goodness. And I write that knowing absolutely nothing about Star Wars—I only saw Episode I and Episode III! Anyhow, a video!

  • EA drops fat cash on The Old Republic

EA drops fat cash on The Old Republic

What's it going to take to dethrone World of Warcraft? One of two things, I'd say: one, an asteroid smashing directly into the planet, with Blizzard at the exact location of impact, or two, Blizzard releasing World of Warcraft 2. The asteroid is more likely at this point. So you can imagine the time and money EA is putting into The Old Republic, the only MMO with a chance in hell of taking away even a fraction of WoW's subscribers.

  • The making of a great commercial

The making of a great commercial

I didn't watch the Superbowl, so I didn't see any of the commercials. Had I watched, I would have seen -- and thoroughly enjoyed -- this Old Spice body wash commercial. Leo Laporte saw it, though, and was so utterly blown away by it that he got the creative team who created it on for an interview. The interview is illuminating in several aspects, but the whole point of the discussion was to find out whether the commercial was composited using digital tricks, or if it was all done in real time. It's the difference between Star Wars Episode One's digital trickery and the Lord of the Ring's forced perspective visual trickery.
