The Nintendo 3DS won’t be called the 3DS
Posted on May 11, 2010 | No Comments
This is strange. Apparently Nintendo has yet to announce the formal name of its upcoming portable 3D gaming device. That means the clever 3DS name we've come to know isn't the real thing. But seriously, is there a name better than 3DS seeing as it's a 3D version of the DS? Unless it's nothing like the DS...maybe this wasn't a fan-made mock-up after all.

Nikon patents strange LCD screen
Posted on April 29, 2010 | No Comments
Patents are always so much fun, and such a source of random speculation. Take for example this new LCD display from Nikon. What could it be? Is it for a DLSR? Maybe for video? No one knows, and of course Nikon isn't talking, but it's interesting to put your best guess out there.

Petit Petit touchscreen app: Interesting four-dimensional contact management tool
Posted on February 23, 2010 | No Comments
This strange app is a touchscreen interface that connects people, places, and things using "clouds" of items and people. It basically makes Venn diagrams of your contacts and allows you to share and explore content and messages.
This looks way too weird for the average user but clearly someone out there may want to move Sven and Nikola to a timeline and figure out which emails came from each person and which emails overlap.
The text input system is actually quite cool, however, because it predicts the words you're about to type. Pop over to 4 minutes in to see how that system works.
Video after the jump.

Pioneer’s “Cherry” and “Leather Belt” Earphones
Posted on February 18, 2010 | No Comments
I don't know what it is about Japan and earphones, but this country does offer some unique ones. Today, it wasn't some weird little company but Pioneer that announced strange earphones: One is cherry-shaped [JP], the other looks like a piece of a leather belt [JP] for some reason.

What is this?
Posted on February 17, 2010 | No CommentsWhat is this strange orb-shaped thing? Is it a Jedi Mind Trainer? A strange onacup? A magical ball of joy? Perhaps all of those things are right… and none of them. This, my friends, is a prototype Marshmallow Landmine. You load this thing up with marshmallows and it shoots them off when enemies approach. It’s part [...] -
Acer is blowing up with neoTouch and beTouch, more Android and Windows on the way
Posted on February 15, 2010 | No Comments
Acer isn't showing any signs of slowing down at Mobile World Congress this week. Just this morning, the manufacturer announced the Liquid e and now we have the neoTouch and beTouch. A little strange with the name scheme, but let's see just what these devices are packing, shall we?

Sling drops four new devices, all of which are worth a passing, if mention
Posted on January 6, 2010 | No CommentsSlingbox has released four new placeshifting devices. They are, in order of appearance: Slingbox 700U This box allows HD receivers to “sling” their “content” over the “Internet” directly, cutting out the laborous process of videotaping TV, converting it at one of those strip mall conversion places, and mailing it in the post. It connects to any set-top [...] -
DECAF, the anti-Microsoft COFEE, now available
Posted on December 15, 2009 | No CommentsYou sorta knew this was going to happen. Microsoft COFEE, a highly secretive forensics tool used by law enforcement, leaked onto the Internet several weeks ago. People far smarter than I got a hold of it, and have created what has been dubbed DECAF, an anti-COFEE set of tools that you can install to block the effects of COFEE.

Video: Strange Japanese hamburger vending machine
Posted on November 2, 2009 | No Comments
Everybody knows Japan loves them vending machines. And even though machines selling panties don't exist over here, you can still find strange models from time to time. Case in point: A hamburger vending machine in Tokyo [JP] that sells one burger at a time because it's operated manually.

My First Sony: A Tribute
Posted on October 19, 2009 | No CommentsIt’s not every day that a strange, hirsute man rewrites a Sony jingle and then dances, poorly, on his deck. This man is my friend Rick from grade school and he created this in an homage to some stupid tapes we did as kids in my basement. While it is clear that Rick has grown physically, [...] -
GSM-flavored Motorola Droid passes through the FCC
Posted on October 16, 2009 | No Comments
Last night, a bunch of strange tips slammed our inbox, all talking about the Motorola Sholes (otherwise known as the Tao, or more recently, the Verizon Motorola Droid.) "Motorola just tried to sneak the Sholes through the FCC!" they read, highlighting the fact that in this recent report, Motorola only mentions Sholes by name once - and it's about as subtle of a mention as can be. But that, in itself, isn't what seemed strange. What was strange was that the Motorola Sholes already cleared the FCC last month, in Verizon-ready CDMA form.
So we looked a bit closer, and sure enough, there they were: GSM frequencies.

Ah - another day, another Android rumor. As Android fleshes itself out into the torrential go-to OS for smartphone manufacturers that we've all hoped it would, we can expect to see more and more Android rumors rambling about. In other words,
