Hands-on: 1TB Seagate FreeAgent Go Portable Drive

The Seagate FreeAgent Go is a 1TB, USB-powered hard drive that works. What more do you wanna know? I just got the 1TB FreeAgent Go Portable Drive from Seagate and I’m impressed. First off, it’s not that large. I mean, it’s sort-of bulky compared to Seagate’s smaller FreeAgent Go drives, but it’s manageable. The drive is [...]

Hands-on with the Pentax K-7 at the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix

One of the downsides to covering gadgets on a daily basis for as long as I have is the fact that I think everything is crap. Very few things excite me and anything that does usually ends up falling short of my expectations. It’s unfortunate, but once in a blue moon does something not only impress, but also exceed my expectations. Case in point, the Pentax K-7.

Rumor: Best Buy to start accepting orders for Sprint’s HTC Hero on September 13

  • Sony goes full-frame with the α850 DSLR, will ship this fall

Sony goes full-frame with the α850 DSLR, will ship this fall

It seems a little unnecessary but (there's a sucker born every second, right?) the 24.6-megapixel full-frame Exmor CMOS sensor equipped α850 is being geared towards “a broader group of consumers,” says Kristen Elder, the Director of Digital Imaging at Sony. Before you raise an eyebrow and ask why Sony has another full-frame DSLR when the α900 is top dog, ask me how much the α850 is going to be. It’s coming in under $2000, which is $700 cheaper than the α900.

  • Atlona has some nifty swivel HDMI and DVI cables

Atlona has some nifty swivel HDMI and DVI cables

I'm a sucker for products that make installing A/V equipment easier and these cables from Atlona do just that. The ends swivel to allow for tighter mounting against the wall. You see, some cables feature large, cool looking ends that don't like to bend against a wall, which then pushes the flat screen out a bit or forcing the installer to cut into the wall. But these cables bend in half which should make for a cleaner install. Wall brackets are getting thin and thin, and these cables will allow installers to practically flush mount a flat screen.

    Gerber Crucial Multitool

I'm a sucker for a multi-tool. I had a great Swiss Army one - I think it was Victorinox - but I lost that and then I got a Leatherman. This one looks nice, though. It has a caribiner, a saw, two screwdrivers, and a knife. Best of all it's only $37, which is considerably less than I paid for my Leatherman. It will be available at RockyNational in July. Click through for a thrilling video.

    Samsung intros low-voltage, 32GB DDR3 memory

Samsung just outed the first 32GB DDR3 memory module. This sucker is fast too with 20% better throughput at 1.35 volts than the current 1.5 volt generation, thanks to 72 4Gb memory chips. It's just too bad that you will not be popping this into your gaming rig anytime soon.

    Video: Ears-on with Electro-Harmonix’s POG2 effects pedal

Sorry for the clipping but this sucker was loud. This is Electro-Harmonix's local tester running the POG2 pedal through its paces. The pedal makes a standard guitar sound like a harpsichord and an organ.
The POG2 will take you even higher. Use the new attack control to fade in lush, smooth swells. Tune in the new second sub-octave to reach deeper than ever before. The 2-pole resonant low-pass filter now includes two additional Q modes. Slide in the newly enhanced detune to further refine your sound. The POG2 delivers unrivaled tonal variations -- and now you can save your favorite settings, and recall them with a click. The POG2 just plain sounds better, thanks to an enhanced algorithm that delivers a more focused and in-the-pocket harmonic performance. And all this is now packed into our rugged and pedalboard-friendly diecast chassis.
