Only one game per matchday will be in 3D during the World Cup

More info on Sony and FIFA's plan to bring us the World Cup in 3D. It turns out that Sony will only film one game per matchday in 3D. That's for all 25 days of the tournament, so if multiple games are played on the same day only one game, presumably the highest profile, will get the 3D treatment.

Final Four to be shown in 3D theaters

Mark Cuban and Bud Mayo have been pushing the current generation of 3D long before the current generation of 3D had even been pitched as the next big thing to consumers by TV manufacturers. Cuban and Mayo (sounds like a delicious sandwich) aren’t trying to get you to watch 3D television in your home, though. They actually want you to leave the house. And you’ll be able to do just that if you live near one of the Cinedigm-fitted 3D theaters that’ll be showing the semi-finals and championship game for the NCAA Final Four college basketball tournament in early April.

    Koreans watch Avatar in “4D”

One important factor that can explain Avatar's success at the box office is certainly the 3D experience viewers can have when they walk into the right movie theater. But what about watching Avatar in "4D"? In Korea, you can. The nation's leading multiplex chain, CJ-CGV, runs a handful of so-called "4D plexes" where the experience includes moving seats, laser lights or wind. In the case of Avatar, CJ-CGV uses a total of 30 different "real-life" effects to add some excitement to the movie.

December 17: Tron Legacy in IMAX 3D

When in doubt, make a sequel. When in doubt in the year 2009, tack on 3D. That's the mentality of Hollywood these days—“remakes” are another in thing—and it looks like will be in theaters on December 17, 2010Tron: Legacy . CrunchGear, at the movies! Peter's been talking pretty much non-stop about Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen for the past few days, and it brings me great joy to say that, despite the horrendous reviews—this is the dumbest thing I've ever read—it's well on its way to becoming the worst reviewed $400 million movie ever. The movie has been in theaters for five days now and it's already halfway to the $400 million mark.
