Videos: Super-mobile rescue robot Quince
Posted on May 4, 2010 | No Comments
This is one of the coolest rescue robots I've ever seen. Meet Quince, jointly developed by Japan's International Rescue System Institute, Tohoku University and the Chiba Institute Of Technology. The eight-wheeled robot may not look like much, but it's actually very impressive when you see it in action.
Quince is supposed to help humans during "CBRN"-type emergencies (it can be used in the case of chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear disasters). The robot is sized at 655mmx481mmx225mm, weighs 26.4kg and can move as fast as 1.6m/s.

Dream Cat Venus: Sega Toys to roll out creepy animal robot
Posted on July 6, 2009 | No CommentsSega Toys Japan is pretty active when it comes to developing toy robots. They are the company behind the E.M.A. (aka the kissing robot) or the A.M.P. (aka the music robot). But Sega Toys is also selling a lot of animal robots, for example a robo-hamster, baby biddies or a puppy. Their newest robotic animal is called Dream Cat Venus [JP, PDF]. Sega Toys has been selling life-like (well, almost) robo-cats in Japan for about 3 years now. And Venus (designed like a Norwegian Forest Cat) is an upgrade for an older model called "Smile". Sega Toys says it's the right choice for people with no time to look after a real animal.
