  • Is this the Apple Magic Trackpad? Is WWDC going to be a bust?

Is this the Apple Magic Trackpad? Is WWDC going to be a bust?

Steve just can't catch a break. It sure seems like the item above is the unannounced Apple Magic Trackpad, which just got an unofficial Internet debut just like the iPhone 4G/HD ahead of Jobs' WWDC keynote address later today. Apple might as well pack up their massive banners and simply issue press releases like every other CE company. At this rate, there isn't going to be anything left to announce in Steve Jobs' traditional "one more thing" fashion.

  • Apple Patents The Invisible Button

    Apple Patents The Invisible Button

One of Apple's famous minimalist design principles is to get rid of buttons whenever possible. With touchscreen devices like the iPhone and iPad, almost all of the buttons appear when needed on the screen. But what about Macbooks with aluminum casings? A new patent application titled "Disappearing Button or Slider" shows that Apple is at least thinking about how to bring elements of touch computing to all devices by replacing buttons and other controls with capacitive controls which appear only when needed. The patent describes a way to create backlit micro-perforated holes on the aluminum casing of a MacBook or other device which could be used for buttons on the lid when the laptop is closed or below the keyboard when it is open. The buttons could serve as simple displays for WiFi signal or battery strength, control playlists and volume for iTunes songs or movies, or even replace the trackpad.

HTC Incredible gets rendered, looks incredible

We can't say for sure whether this is an actual leak or the work of an overly talented individual with just the right amount of time on their hands. Either way, that render up there is the most gloriously high resolution look at the Verizon-bound HTC Incredible Android wunderphone that we've been blessed with so far.

Stuck in the iPhone mindset, AT&T locks down apps on their first Android phone

Our full review of the Motorola Backflip should be up in a few days, but a few words of wisdom in the mean time: Don’t buy it. Between its crazy form-factor and the hidden trackpad tucked on the back of the display, everything we took as merits at face value have devolved into novelties. Worst of [...]

I Am Legend: How the HTC Legend stacks up to a Hero

The HTC Hero, available in the US from Sprint, is less than a year old but that doesn't mean HTC can't up the ante. The Legend, a 3G GSM phone not currently available, has a slightly faster processor and a few interesting - and telling - details that are worth a second look. First, the processor has jumped from 528 MHz to 600, a bump that puts it on par with the Palm Pre in terms of speed. The screen is AMOLED, a brighter, more vibrant display technology and the Legend has an optical trackpad rather than a small ball.
