National Photo Month contest winners!
Posted on May 17, 2010 | No Comments
Next time I run a contest on CrunchGear, I am definitely not going to commit to selecting a random winner. The submissions for our National Photo Month contest were great! They were clever, artistic, and truly enjoyable. You guys outdid yourselves, and I really wish I could reward everyone who entered with a prize. But alas, I committed to selecting three random winners. Click on through to see the winners, along with a few honorable mentions.

Sony NEX-5 and NEX-3 hands-on reports hit the web
Posted on May 11, 2010 | No Comments
The Sony NEX-3 and NEX-5 leaked-out late last night and surprised the Internet with their down-right sweet styling. Well, Sony has gone and made the pair official, announcing the NEX-5 will retail for $650 with the NEX-3 fetching $550. The cameras have been in the works for some time and just as the press release was crossing the wires, the big camera sites published their hands-on reports. These aren't full reviews, but they definitely have some insight that cannot be gathered from a press release.

Review: Lowepro SlingShot 202 AW
Posted on April 1, 2010 | No CommentsShort version: The SlingShot 202 is a strange bag. It’s not really a backpack, although you do wear it on your back, and it’s not really a messenger bag, but you do put the strap over your shoulder. It’s kind of a strange combination of both, taking the best of each and combining them into [...] -
The HD JVC Everio GZ-HM550 lets smartphones control functions via Bluetooth
Posted on March 19, 2010 | No Comments
The JVC GZ-HM550 brings a new set of standards to the table. It isn't the 1920 x 1080 recording or 9 MP stills. Nor is it the 32GB internal flash memory with an SD/SDHC card slot playing backup or even the Konica Minolta HD lens. Nope, it's the novel Bluetooth function that might make a full size camcorder relevant again in a smartphone world.

CrunchDeals: Flip MinoHD camcorder for $120
Posted on December 16, 2009 | No Comments
Ho ho ho, this may be the lowest price you’ll see on a new Flip MinoHD camcorder for a while. Amazon’s got them for $120, today only, down from $160. To be honest, Cisco just bought Flip and they’re expected to unveil some new products at CES (like, perhaps, Wi-Fi enabled camcorders?) so Flip might just be blowing these things out to make room for the new stuff. Either way, today you get a somewhat reasonably-priced pocket camcorder.

Sparkz iPhone dock projector: Expensive and small
Posted on November 11, 2009 | No Comments
Have you ever wanted to share everything with everyone? Maybe you've always wanted to project your home movies on your seatmate's tray table. Or maybe you want to surprise the kids with some video of you back during your frat days. What better way to do it than with a $495 mini-projector for iPhones, iPods Touch, and Video iPods.
It blows out video at 640x480 pixels at 60 inches and it includes speakers and a tripod. The video, above, proves the majesty of its resolution and the usefulness of its usefulcality.

DIY: DSLR hand strap
Posted on October 19, 2009 | No Comments
I'm not a big fan of the camera neck strap. I never use it as a neck strap but I put up with it because I would drop my camera if that strap wasn't there. However, I'm going to ditch that strap and make me one of these hand straps. That is, of course, if something else on the Internet doesn't distract me first.

Review: Joby Gorillapod SLR-Zoom
Posted on July 25, 2009 | No Comments
We actually have two reviews in one in this case; the Joby Gorillapod SLR-Zoom, and the optional ballhead mount. Do I recommend you trust your expensive camera gear to this device? Simply put, yes. I have a Nikon D300, and I put my precious on the Gorillapod with it's 18-200mm lens on it, and it didn't buckle.

Review: BT-1 Bluetooth Webcam
Posted on July 8, 2009 | No Comments
If there is one gadget that really caught my attention this year, besides the Palm Pre, was the BT-1 Bluetooth Webcam from Ecamm Network. The BT-1, which won Macworld Best of Show, has received much praise since its announcement at Macworld and I was quite excited to open it up and give it a try.
