Verizon down in Southern California? (update: Ohio, too?)
Posted on June 10, 2010 | No Comments
"Preparation is key to building the most reliable network," says Verizon's last tweet, but we hear the company wasn't prepared in Southern California -- reports are trickling in about a multi-county voice outage. Since that new Droid's not so Incredible when it can't make calls, here's hoping Verizon fixes the issue soon. We'd hate to have to call out a different carrier's name the next time someone botches a phone demo.
Update: Several Verizon customers in Ohio are complaining, too, but we also hear that So. Cal's outage might possibly / temporarily be over.Filed under: Misc

Boost Mobile confirms it’s getting the Motorola i1, basically
Posted on May 28, 2010 | No CommentsLet's be honest -- there was never any real doubt that Boost was going to share the Motorola i1 with parent Sprint, especially after Best Buy went ahead and threw it up early. That said, if you still needed a little extra confirmation just to sleep better at night, look no further than this tweet today from Boost Mobile's official account saying it "is launching an ANDROID next month" and imploring that we all "spread it like wildfire." They don't mention what device it'll be, but clearly it'll be the i1 -- so consider the message spread like wildfire, Boost. Where you at?Boost Mobile confirms it's getting the Motorola i1, basically originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Fri, 28 May 2010 21:04:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

Save Dave: Twitter campaign rallies around Sirius XM’s Ron and Fez producer
Posted on May 24, 2010 | No CommentsThere's a campaign brewing on Twitter that really ought to be highlighted, if only because it shows the power (well, potential power) of the site. Dave McDonald, a producer on the Ron and Fez show on Sirius XM (and part-time inventor), needs a raise. He needs a raise because he has a growing family to support. But let's not even bring up personal reasons. The man deserves a raise because he's a fantastic asset to the Ron and Fez show and to Sirius XM as a whole. Without a raise, Dave will have to leave the show, which is incredibly disappointing. He's a producer of the highest caliber—competent producers don't grow on trees, otherwise terrestrial radio might not be as dead as it is today—and yet he earns little more than an intern. If this were 20 years ago we might see picket lines forming outside the Sirius XM studios in New York, but because this is 2010, fans have turned to Twitter to send Sirius XM management a very clear message: Save Dave, Pay The Man.

HTC Wildfire priced by T-Mobile, coming to UK on June 14
Posted on May 19, 2010 | No CommentsThe biggest outstanding question about the Wildfire has now been answered by at least one carrier -- T-Mobile will be delivering HTC's student-friendly handset at the £20 ($29) per month price point on two-year contracts. Frankly, that's a bigger financial commitment than we'd expected to have to make, but it will presumably include unlimited (which in T-Mobile lingo means a 3GB fair use policy) data use and a healthy allowance of calls and texts. If that doesn't rub you up the right way, look out for Virgin Mobile to reveal its pricing in the near term, having announced it'll be carrying the phone via a tweet.Continue reading HTC Wildfire priced by T-Mobile, coming to UK on June 14

Samsung Moment gets Android 2.1 update from Sprint, Hero users promised to be next
Posted on May 14, 2010 | No CommentsHey, hey -- what do you know? If you're a Samsung Moment owner on Sprint, you know exactly how glorious it feels to have and hold Android 2.1, which Sprint has confirmed to be rolling out to handsets as we speak. Notably, a tweet on the matter has the carrier promising that Hero owners will be "next" to see the same update, but sadly a time line wasn't given. Enjoy and hang tight, respectively.Samsung Moment gets Android 2.1 update from Sprint, Hero users promised to be next originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 14 May 2010 15:24:00 EST. Sprint: Android 2.1 for Hero and Moment “to be available in Q2″ (Read: Not Today.)
Posted on May 7, 2010 | No CommentsHurray! The Sprint Hero is getting Android 2.1 on May 7th! Wait, no it’s not! Sprint has never named a specific date on which their Hero and Moment handsets would be getting Android 2.1, beyond a tweet promising them sometime in the second quarter. A few signs were pointing to a launch today — but [...] -

HTC Russia says HD2 will get Windows Mobile 7 upgrade, but other ‘communicators’ won’t
Posted on December 30, 2009 | No CommentsAnd what do we have here? HTC's Russian contingent has been rather forthcoming with its Windows Mobile 7 plans this morning, which will please HD2 owners but disappoint many others. The good news is that HTC's flagship WinMo handset is assured of getting Microsoft's finest when it comes out, but the bad news is that the rest of the line will remain stuck at version 6.5 or below. Here's the tweet in the Queen's own tongue:
Keep in mind it's still possible, though not altogether probable, that this statement refers only to the Russian market. In either case, if you were holding out hope for your Touch Pro 2 or Snap to keep updating all the way to 7, it seems the odds are now officially stacked against you.For Diamond 2 firmware is not planned. Of the existing communicators on the market, only the HD2 firmware to get WM7.HTC Russia says HD2 will get Windows Mobile 7 upgrade, but other 'communicators' won't originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 30 Dec 2009 10:52:00 EST.
