Palm Pixi seen running webOS 1.3.1 on video
Posted on November 10, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, Palm, webOS
We've already seen a quick Palm Pixi unboxing and hands-on video, but we're guessing most folks are looking for a bit more than that in the lead-up to launch day. Thankfully, YouTube user stayfly2407 has come through with a video that, for the first time, clearly shows the Pixi running webOS 1.3.1, which may or may not be the version the phone actually ships with -- it was only just recently seeded to developers. The video unfortunately doesn't show any new features associated with this version, however, but it does seem to be speedy enough even in spite of the Pixi's slower processor. Head on past the break to see for yourself.Continue reading Palm Pixi seen running webOS 1.3.1 on video

Nokia N900 unboxed, and no, you can’t unbox your own (yet)
Posted on October 12, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, Nokia, Linux, GSM, EDGE, HSDPA, UMTS
So it seems like the new thing for manufacturers is to gather a bunch of platform champions (read: developers and bloggers) in a room, wax poetic for an hour or two about strategy, and -- here's where it gets awesome -- give out or loan hot, new devices to everyone in attendance. Google's done it, Palm's done it, and now Nokia's getting in the game by handing out pre-production N900s on extended loans at its Maemo Summit event last week, and that inevitably means that we're going to be seeing a ton of unboxings and reviews over the coming days. This particular unboxing comes to us courtesy of Slashgear, which notes that the devices are currently running non-final firmware even though the hardware is the same stuff we'll be seeing on shelves in the next few weeks. It's looking great so far -- but then again, so did the N97 in its muted black box prior to release, so we'll withhold final judgment until this one's been thoroughly vetted for awesomeness.Nokia N900 unboxed, and no, you can't unbox your own (yet) originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Mon, 12 Oct 2009 15:01:00 EST. Nope, the New Yorker doesn’t like the Kindle very much
Posted on July 28, 2009 | No CommentsUsually when I read a long article, I'll say something like, “Free up 20 minutes so you can read the whole thing.” I'm not sure I'm going to say that today, having just finished an article in the New Yorker, which is usually good for a profile or two, about the Kindle. And it's not because the article is down on the Kindle—I don't own any Amazon stock, so I don't care if Kindle sinks or swims—but because it doesn't really say anything that you probably didn't already know.

Unboxing: T-Mobile myTouch 3G
Posted on July 21, 2009 | No Comments
Here it is, folks. The T-Mobile myTouch 3G, the second Android device to hit US shores from HTC. John already reviewed the Hero, which is more or less the same device under the hood aside from the Sense UI. The only noticeable difference I can see on the myTouch 3G is the build of Cupcake it carries, COC10. Packaging is quite nice and comes with a set of earbuds, USB to 3.5mm adapter, carrying pouch, 4GB microSD card, screen protector and a fancy charger shaped exactly like the myTouch 3G. We'll have a review in the next few days.

Samsung’s OmniaHD gets high-def unboxing
Posted on May 31, 2009 | No CommentsIf watching the N97 crawl out of its Espoo-designed packaging just isn't enough for one day, how's about this? An unlocked Samsung OmniaHD (or i8910, if we're being proper) has found its way into the ever-loving hands of one mareskino, and he was kind enough to unbox the thing on video. Better still, the quality here is second to none, and we'd bet you'll be drooling by the end of it. If you're ready to prove us right / wrong, hop on past the break and mash play.
[Thanks, Curtis]Continue reading Samsung's OmniaHD gets high-def unboxing
