Apple sold 3 million iPads in 80 days; 11,000 iPad apps now available

Apple has sold 3 million iPads in 80 days, according to a release issued by the company today. The statement also reported that there are 11,000 iPad apps available for the device.
On May 31, Apple reported that it had sold 2 million iPad, showing that the company has sold one million more tablet devices in less than a month. The company only started shipping units to customers in countries outside the United States in late May, which could account for the faster growth in sales.

Posted on June 7, 2010 | No CommentsConsidering the lackluster career that Palm's inaugural webOS duo ultimately endured on Sprint, it's wild to think back to those heady days when the Pre was the carrier's best launch day performer in history -- but alas, no longer. As you might've expected, the mighty EVO 4G has shown the Pre the door to take its own place in the record books, a mark we're not surprised to see considering the activation issues many customers saw on Friday as Sprint's systems buckled under the load. Sprint isn't quoting figures, but it proudly boasts of "temporary shortages of the device at some of the 22,000 sales locations across the United States" that are in the process of being replenished with daily deliveries. Now, the next hurdle is to see whether Sprint's shared WiMAX infrastructure can stand up to the load of its first wildly-successful 4G consumer product, eh? Apple Sold 2 Million iPads In 59 Days

Apple had announced that sales of its tablet computer iPad have topped two million in less than 60 days since its launch on April 3. That's a whole lot of iPads in two months, and the company only started shipping units in countries outside the United States last weekend.
The news comes almost a month after Apple announced that it had sold 1 million units.
As previously announced, the iPad will be available in nine more - but still unnamed - countries in July and additional countries later this year.

LG Ally release pushed back a week for reasons unknown

You remember those Android 2.1-powered LG Allys that were supposed to go on sale with Big Red earlier this week? Yeah, well, they didn't, and Verizon's site is still showing them as pre-orders. We're not sure what's going on there, but pre-orders are being extended through the 26th with sales commencing on the 27th; folks that have already pre-ordered the phone are apparently getting emails explaining the situation and letting them know that they'll be "the first to receive the phone upon initial availability on or after May 27th." The "or after" part there seems to be giving them a loophole in case they need another delay -- so this could be a last-minute software issue, supply problems, some sort of wacky marketing stunt, or a stunning heist involving the theft of every Ally that has been imported to the United States thus far. Dell CEO: Streak coming next month to Telefonica O2, ‘later this summer’ to AT&T
Posted on May 13, 2010 | No CommentsYou know who can't stop talking about (or showing off) the Dell Streak / Mini 5? Company CEO Michael Dell, that's who. The man once again returned with his Android-powered 5-inch display of choice, showing it off on stage at the Citrix Synergy conference this morning. Sure, we've seen the handset ad nauseum at this point -- we're even a proud owner of one prototype -- but here's the quote that piqued our interest: "this [phone] will be available starting next month, first with our partner 02 Telefonica [sic] in Europe, then later this summer with our pretty good partner here in the United States, AT&T." He couldn't be much more direct, and we couldn't get it from a more knowing source. Excited for the near future yet?

Brightkite Group Text on a roll in the United States, now available in Canada

A mere month and a half after launching, Brightkite says its new Group Text feature is a big hit with users in the United States.
According to the startup, which boasts more than 2 million registered users, the average Group Text user sends a whopping 17 messages per day. Already, its total usage is growing 19 percent on average per day.
Brightkite is now sending more than 20 million messages a month, nearly half of which are regular SMS messages.

Apple Confirms: iPad On Sale At “Most” Best Buy Stores On April 3, From 9 AM

So we know that Apple’s iPad has started shipping, and this morning the company also confirmed that the device will be on sale in all 221 of its retail stores across the United States as well as “most Best Buy stores” this Saturday, beginning at 9 AM.
Apple also said its retail stores will offer a free Personal Setup service to every customer, helping them customize their new iPad by setting up their email, loading their favorite apps from the App Store, and more. Furthermore, all US Apple retail stores will host special iPad workshops to help customers learn more about the product.

I would have assumed "football" or baseball, sports with a proud American pedigree. But, whatever, here we are. Cablevision, the same cable company that gives me super-fast Internet (even though I get TV from DirecTV), will broadcast tonight's Islanders-Rangers game in fancy-pants 3D. Let freedom ring!

Amazon Opens Up Kindle Digital Text Platform To Authors Outside The U.S.

Amazon.com this morning announced that it is expanding its self-service Kindle Digital Text Platform worldwide, giving more authors and publishers the chance to upload and sell books in English, German and French to customers around the world in the Kindle Store.
Until today, DTP was only available to authors and publishers based in the United States. Amazon says additional language options with DTP will be added in the coming months.

One reason for their reluctance may be that outlawing something that has become second nature to most people would be both unproductive and tough to enforce. So what do you do? The natural alternative to forcing people to drive attentively is educating them of the reasons why. Never mind the fact that we all kinda, sorta know the risks we undertake while operating a Droid and a Dodge concurrently. The Apple Tablet: Will It Be Called iSlate, iGuide, Or Something Else?

After discovering that Apple had registered iSlate.com in late 2006 (we dug a little deeper and found trademarks had been filed for 'ISLATE' in both the United States and Europe by a company that was most likely a dummy corporation set up by Apple), MacRumors has now discovered another possible name for the upcoming Apple tablet.
MacRumors bases its report on the filing for a US trademark for 'IGUIDE' by another Delaware-registered company called iGuide Media LLC, which can be linked to Cupertino by means of signatures on the documents coming from Apple's Senior Trademark Specialist, Regina Porter.
Let's dig a little deeper, once again.

Here's the deal: the Federal Government of the United States spent a bunch of money investigating various online marketing scams. How they work, what makes people fall for them, etc. Consumers lost some $1.4 billion to such scams.
