Nexus One gets USB host driver from a dude with an oscilloscope (video)
Posted on June 4, 2010 | No CommentsFor Sven Killig, running Android 2.2 wasn't enough. No sir, this dude wanted even more power for his Nexus One, so he went ahead and penned a few lines of code that have allowed his Googlephone to act as a USB host. As a result, he can now do cutting edge stuff like plugging in USB keyboards and webcams, as well as more useful things like watching movies off USB sticks or connecting to a monitor via a DisplayLink USB-to-DVI adapter. All these features are demonstrated in the video after the break, and you'll find the downloadable binaries at the source -- Sven expects them to work on Android 2.1 as well.Continue reading Nexus One gets USB host driver from a dude with an oscilloscope (video)

Buffalo announces world’s first USB 3.0 ExpressCard adapter
Posted on December 9, 2009 | No Comments
USB 3.0 is slowly advancing, and Japan-based computer accessory maker Buffalo emerges as the leading company in its space. After having announced the world's first USB 3.0-powered Blu-ray burner just last month, they today unveiled the first ExpressCard adapter [JP] that's based on USB 3.0. The IFC-EC2U3/UC works with Windows 7 and Vista (32bit and 34 bit). It's also compatible to XP machines.
Buffalo explains that if your PC or digital camera has a USB 3.0 port, you'll get 5Gbps as the top data transfer speed. If not, the ExpressCard/34 offers just 480Mbps. It features two USB 3.0 ports and is based off NEC's USB 3.0 host controller.

Micro-USB to be the standard phone charging port of Europe
Posted on June 29, 2009 | No CommentsIn a move that should have been done years ago, the top mobile phone suppliers of Europe have all signed an agreement that micro-USB will be the standard phone charging port. Soon consumers will not have to fret over charging cables as all the phones from Nokia, Sony Ericsson, LG, NEC, Qualcomm, Motorola, RIM, Samsung, Texas Instruments, and even Apple sold in Europe will all charge via micro-USB. We're just curious if Apple is going to finally retire the Dock Connector from the iPhone or produce some sort of micro-USB adapter to comply with this agreement.
