Posted on December 29, 2009 | No Comments
If you saw the post yesterday about the 10-port USB hub and thought to yourself, “We’re getting there but I still need MORE!” then here’s your answer. It’s a 24-port USB hub. If 24 ports isn’t enough for you then I give up.

How many USB ports is too many? Not ten, apparently. Meritline.com is selling a ten-port USB 2.0 hub for an actually-reasonable price of $26 with free shipping.

Multifaceted adapter combines 3-port USB hub with iPod / iPhone connector
Posted on December 3, 2009 | No Comments
Multi-purpose adapters aren't anything new, but it's often the simplest of the bunch that prove most useful. Take this bugger for instance, which is little more than a vanilla 3-port USB hub connected to an iPhone / iPod dock connector port. The purpose for its existence? To prevent you from having to haul Apple's flimsily built charging cable and a USB hub with you each time you scurry out, and to just generally make your time on this planet entirely more enjoyable. Now if only it could recharge our prototype Volt that we've secretly got hiding in the Engadget Garage, we'd really be able to extol the $14.99 asking price.Multifaceted adapter combines 3-port USB hub with iPod / iPhone connector originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 03 Dec 2009 17:49:00 EST. Ancient cell phone modded into media center PC
Posted on August 26, 2009 | No Comments
Now THIS, my friends, is a mod. An enterprising Finnish fellow has gutted a super old Mobira Talkman cell phone kit and installed a home theater PC inside of it. That's impressive, yes, but what's more impressive is that he fit a USB hub, Wi-Fi card, sound card, and a 128x128 OLED screen into the handset. Oh, and it works for VOIP calls to boot.

Video Review: EVGA Interview
Posted on August 7, 2009 | No Comments
I'm going to be kind here and say that EVGA Interview is an interesting product. It is a dual monitor system with two 17-inch screens attached to a base. It's a good idea, it really is. I'm just concerned that $600 is a bit much to pay for two screens in this configuration.
The trick here is that the screens turn over when you twist them into position. Want to show someone across the desk from you something? Flip over the monitor. It bears to note, however, that you need two graphics cards - DVI or VGA capable - to use both monitors at the same time.

Crapgadget: Tacky USB knicknacks edition
Posted on June 1, 2009 | No Comments
When the fine folks of the USB Implementers Forum put together the specs for USB 2.0 some nine odd years ago, they certainly never dreamed that this technology would be the standard connectivity option for the tacky knickknacks of the 21st century. We know you won't be lining your mantelpiece with any of these things (the space being reserved for your Franklin Mint collector plates depicting the cast of Gone With The Wind) but maybe your cube could use some gussying up? We have 2GB thumb drives for you that almost-not-really pass themselves off as cat's ears, a USB hub that comes with "chocolate" balls of dubious provenance, a hub that might look at home next to your skull bong, and lastly, a USB powered fan with a fetching Spider-Man motif. Do any of these sound good to you? We didn't think so. But feel free to hop on past the break for a good laugh.
