Verizon’s V CAST Video for Android now available, runs $10 a month
Posted on June 7, 2010 | No Comments
Android owners on Verizon now have a new (albeit pricey) way to bide their time as they wait in grocery store checkout lines, doctors' offices, traffic jams, DMVs, and Engadget Show entrance gates, because Big Red is flipping the switch today on its V CAST Video offering for every Google-powered handset to hit its network so far. The Droid, Droid Eris, Devour, Droid Incredible, and Ally are all equipped to take advantage of the app, which claims to offer over 230 full-length shows spanning over 40 programming providers -- but the downside is that it'll cost you $10 a month on top of your data plan, the same that V CAST Video On Demand runs on Verizon's other phones. If you're willing to take the plunge, look for it in the Market right away.Continue reading Verizon's V CAST Video for Android now available, runs $10 a month

Verizon adds more phones to FiOS Mobile Remote and Remote DVR Manager compatibility list
Posted on May 24, 2010 | No CommentsDid you notice that there were some fresh devices listed when the iPhone popped up on Verizon's FiOS Mobile Remote compatibility chart last week? Sure enough, Big Red ended up dropping some PR on the matter, taking the opportunity to pimp the fact that over a quarter million users have now downloaded its two-pack of FiOS mobile apps. Mobile Remote is now available on the Nexus One, Droid Eris, and Droid Incredible -- in fact, it should work on any Android 2.1-equipped phone -- and Remote DVR Manager is live for more than 50 devices, including the iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and "most" Verizon BlackBerrys. Between the two, you can control your set-top box from your couch or the other side of the world; too bad we're telling you this the day after Lost, right?Verizon adds more phones to FiOS Mobile Remote and Remote DVR Manager compatibility list originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Mon, 24 May 2010 16:27:00 EST. Verizon and iSkoot make feature phones just a little bit smarter with Social Beat
Posted on November 18, 2009 | No CommentsWe may blather on a daily basis over which smart phone reigns supreme – but, outside of the tech world, smart phones are still the minority. Believe it or not, as many as 80% of the handsets floating around out there are basic feature phones. Take Verizon, for example; sure, they’ve got the Droid now, [...] -
Verizon’s Droid is a series, not just a phone; Droid Eris coming from HTC
Posted on October 23, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, HTC, Motorola, Verizon Wireless, Android
digg_url = 'http://digg.com/gadgets/Verizon_Droid_is_a_SERIES_of_phones_HTC_Droid_Eris_is_next'; We just got some wild information from a trusted source about Verizon's Android strategy, and let's just say this shakes things up a little bit. Here are the big takeaways:- Droid is the brand name being applied to Verizon's Android devices. It isn't a single phone.
- The Sholes -- the phone we've been calling the Droid so far -- may simply be known as the Droid.
- HTC's Desire will be coming to market as the "Droid Eris." (Allow us to save you the Wikipedia lookup -- Eris is the Greek goddess of strife.) Interestingly, it's already up on gdgt as such.
- Droid Eris will be released -- not announced, actually released -- on November 6. In all likelihood, it will not be announced or shown at Verizon's October 28 event -- that will probably just be for the Sholes.

Oops! Verizon’s two Android phones get caught on camera
Posted on October 6, 2009 | No Comments
Duhwaaaah? Verizon was workin' all hard this morning to ensure that no one slipped up and mentioned any names when it came to the devices that would emerge from the VZW/Google partnership. Then, not even an hour later, they put a picture of Google CEO Eric Schmidt and Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam holding two separate devices in their own press release. Bloops!

Review: Casio EXILIM 5.1MP camera phone
Posted on July 18, 2009 | No Comments
Lets get a few details out of the way first. The Casio Exilim is one of the most expensive Verizon phones available at $279 with a 2-year agreement. Only the HTC Touch Diamond and Touch Pro cost more. Not only that, the Exilim is loaded with a dated OS and is rather bulky. The only selling point that this phone has is the 5.1MP camera, so that's what I spent most of my time testing.
I pitted the 5.1MP Casio Exilim against a 3.2MP BlackBerry Storm and 6.1MP Nikon D40. I would have to say that I'm impressed with the quality. It's better than the Storm and almost on par with the D40 in some of the photos. Check out the pics below to see what I mean.
