Aava Virta Android reference platform will be the first shipping Moorestown smartphone
Posted on June 2, 2010 | No CommentsSure, Intel might not be planning for Moorestown-based smartphones to hit the market for at least another six months, and the LG GW990 might have died a quiet death, but that's not stopping Aava from getting right in the game with its Virta Android, an Atom Z600-based reference smartphone designed for developer testing. Slated to ship in Q3, the Virta features a Moorestown processor, a 3.8-inch 864 x 480 capacitive touchscreen, quad-band EDGE radios with AT&T 3G support, WiFi, Bluetooth, a five megapixel video camera, and a microSD slot. We're assuming the shipping version will look a lot like the prototype Aava device we've been seeing for a while now, but Aava has some fancier renders up on its site, so we'll see what happens and how much this costs when this thing arrives.

Stream sits still for the camera, shows off its camcorder abilities (video)
Posted on May 29, 2010 | No CommentsIn these halcyon days of impromptu Vietnamese gadget reveals, it should come as no surprise that Acer's Stream has gone from FCC filing to hands-on honey in a few days flat. Now it's been the subject of a rather more thorough photo shoot in Ho Chi Minh City, and also was kind enough to share a little footage filmed from its five megapixel camera. Sadly, it's not raw 720p footage that was YouTube'd, so it's perhaps too early to draw conclusions -- but we'll go ahead and say the video doesn't look very good just the same. Still, it looks to be yet another intriguing entry to the Android assault, and we can't wait for the next leak.

Upcoming ads confirm that the iPhone HD will have video chat
Posted on May 25, 2010 | No CommentsLike the camera sitting on the face of every single leaked iPhone HD hasn’t been proof enough, or like the references to video chat in the beta SDKs didn’t mean anything, now we have even more proof that there will be video chat capabilities in the upcoming iPhone HD (or whatever it will be called). Right [...] -

Here’s a waterproof flashlight/video camera
Posted on May 24, 2010 | No Comments
I'm not sure if this device is really a waterproof flashlight with a video camera or a video camera with a bright light. Either way, it records video at VGA quality on a 4GB internal drive and sports a 1W LED flashlight. There's a USB port, rechargeable battery, and everything else that's supposed to be in a camera. But then it's shaped like a flashlight so I'm still not sure. All I know is with a price tag of $192.99, I really don't care. Click through for a video demo.

Video: Hands-on with the Sony Bloggie video camera
Posted on May 6, 2010 | No CommentsAs stated in the video, please accept this hands-on of the Sony Bloggie video camera in lieu of footage of teeny-boppers, um, bopping around. I don’t need that headache, that’s for sure. The video, which is much shorter than my 15-minute epic from the other day, pretty much goes over all the main ideas of the [...] -

Nikon patents strange LCD screen
Posted on April 29, 2010 | No Comments
Patents are always so much fun, and such a source of random speculation. Take for example this new LCD display from Nikon. What could it be? Is it for a DLSR? Maybe for video? No one knows, and of course Nikon isn't talking, but it's interesting to put your best guess out there.

For women only: Sony’s Cyber-shot DSC-W530D
Posted on April 5, 2010 | No Comments
Sony Japan today announced [JP] a new digital camera that's specifically geared towards women. Technically speaking, the DSC-W530D isn't really a new device (it was unveiled earlier this year in Japan and is available for $200 in the US, too). But Sony changed the design to (possibly) make the Cyber-shot more appealing to female customers.

Video: HTC Supersonic briefly caught on camera
Posted on March 8, 2010 | No Comments
We started drooling about the HTC Supersonic as soon as we heard the words "Android" and "WiMax" in the same sentence. Once "4.3 inch display" got thrown into the mix, our salivary glands just couldn't be stopped.
While HTC hasn't made even the smallest of official peeps about this thing yet, it looks like someone out there has gotten their hands all over it - and just as anyone with early access to a new, unannounced cell phone should do, they took some video.

Twin Video: pocket camera for the narcissist
Posted on January 22, 2010 | No Comments
Ion Audio's latest creation in a rather unique take on the pocket camcorder. The Twin Video has two cameras in it, allowing you to record not just what you are seeing, but what your reaction is to what you are seeing. I don't really see the point behind having two cameras built in the device, other than for the "2 girls one cup" style reaction shots.
You really gotta love the peeps over at XDA. The latest in their long list of awesome achievements is a hack that brings the ability to shoot 720p video on the Nexus One.
