Disembodied voice asks: Who will be the ultimate gamer (on season 2 of ‘WCG Ultimate Gamer’)?
Posted on May 17, 2010 | No CommentsThe most shocking thing about the news that there will be a second season of "WCG Ultimate Gamer" on SyFy is that there was ever a first season. Could have fooled me. But alas, it has been picked up for another year. This calls for a celebration of some sort. Wee!

OnLive strikes deal with BT in the UK, brings streaming video game service across the pond
Posted on May 13, 2010 | No CommentsOnLive, the streaming video game service that threatens to change the way people perceive gaming, has signed a deal with with British Telecommunications. The deal means that Britons will be able to play games like Mass Effect 2 and Assassin's Creed II over their broadband connection (and it also means that BT will buy a small stake in the company). No UK launch date has been announced. The U.S. launch is still on schedule for June 17.

eBoy’s FixPix iPhone game is basically the greatest thing ever made
Posted on May 6, 2010 | No CommentsOkay, so this isn't out yet, but it's hard to deny that the eBoy-designed Delicious Toys-developed game FixPix is probably the best idea anyone has ever had since the wheel or sliced bread. Maybe that's a little hyperbolic, but as you know, we are huge fans of eBoy and their mind-boggling pixel art. Now the design collective's cityscapes and fantastical scenes have been turned into an iPhone app where you can piece the 3D milieus back together by tilting your phone this way and that. As we said, the title isn't available, but there's an awesome demo site where you can play around with the concept, and it's likely FixPix could see Apple approval any day now. We can barely contain ourselves. Check out a video of the game in action after the break.Continue reading eBoy's FixPix iPhone game is basically the greatest thing ever made

NPD: 75 percent of US iPhone, iPod touch users download content, other 25 percent think Opera Mini is a tiny concert
Posted on May 5, 2010 | No Comments
While we can't honestly imagine an iDevice user going about their life without connecting to the iTunes App Store at least once in a blue moon -- if not on a semi-permanent basis -- the statistically-significant NPD Group decided to look into the matter regardless. Sure enough, the org reports that a full three-quarters of iPhone and iPod touch users in the US do indeed download apps and entertainment content from the internet. In case you're wondering, that figure beats the pants off those connecting from their video game consoles (19 percent) or Blu-ray players (17 percent), but both of those are obviously biased towards physical, disc-based media. Before you dismiss these findings as obvious, however, let's read between the lines -- if 75 percent of Apple's touchscreen devices are pulling content from the web, that means the other one-quarter have gone without. If not apps, what the heck are those devices being used for?NPD: 75 percent of US iPhone, iPod touch users download content, other 25 percent think Opera Mini is a tiny concert originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 05 May 2010 07:58:00 EST. Set your clocks, Halo: Reach Beta intro to be shown at 11:00am PDT
Posted on April 29, 2010 | No Comments
In a rather strange move for a video game, Bungie will be showing off the Halo: Reach Beta today via Halo 3: ODST's main menu. This video will star Beta's actress, comedienne, and weapons expert, Aisha Tyler. Chances are the video will find its way onto YouTube by the end of the day just in case you don't have ODST. The Halo: Reach Beta Guide is also now up for your perusal. The May 3rd beta launch is getting closer and closer. Oh man. It's next week.

Boy Scouts announce a Cub Scout video game belt loop, not merit badge
Posted on April 28, 2010 | No Comments
Listen, I know it's easy to make fun of Boy Scouts. I've heard my share of "Go build a birdhouse" jabs being an Eagle Scout myself, but let's get this straight. The just-announced video game belt loop isn't for Boy Scouts, it's for elementary-aged Cub Scouts. So let's take it down a notch or two, Internet.

Bring the retro-bowling arcade experience home
Posted on April 26, 2010 | No Comments
People love arcade games, and have since the 50's. Some of the earliest games were based off of other recreations, like for example bowling. I remember playing one of these in the arcade in town during my youth, but it never held the attraction to me like Battle Zone or Asteroids did.

What could be better than watching MLB games on your PS3?
Posted on April 23, 2010 | No CommentsBack in my day a video game console was a video game console. Now? They're all over the place. The latest example: Sony has inked a deal with Major League Baseball to bring live baseball games to a PS3 near you.

‘Yeah, but does it run Crysis 2?’
Posted on April 9, 2010 | No CommentsThe World's video game press gathered in New York on Tuesday for the world premiere of Crysis 2, the sequel to the game whose memory lives in on the question, "Yeah, but does it run Crysis?" It's no coincidence that Crtyek, the game's developers, and EA, the game's publisher, chose New York to show off the game, with Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli calling the city "symbolic of the pride of mankind." Clearly he hasn't been to the more rubbish sections of Queens. Yes, you're in an altogether different type of jungle this go-round.

Call of Duty: Black Ops, now rumored: Developed by Treyarch, set between World War II and today
Posted on March 29, 2010 | No CommentsSo what to make of this latest Call of Duty rumor? The seventh game in the series will be named Call of Duty: Black Ops, and will take place between the end of World War II and the present day. It won't necessarily "be" a Vietnam War game, but will have missions that take place all over the world. Remember: it's being developed by Treyarch (i.e. not Infinity Ward), the same dudes who developed Call of Duty 3 and Call of Duty: World at War.
