Photos and videos: CrunchGear visits Japan’s biggest Otaku party (CGM Night)

Japan's most famous Otaku culture blogger Danny Choo invited video games/anime/manga/Cosplay/figures/maid cafe fanatics from all over the country last weekend, and about 200 showed up at Digital Hollywood University for the eighth "CGM Night" (here's my report on the last one). The idea is to bring Otaku and geeks out of their rooms and socialize among people of their kind. Needless to say, I was one of them (I live in Tokyo).

The Playstation Move is a Wii clone – but it’s awesome

The Playstation Move is just what it looks like: a Wii clone. It feels the same, looks the same, and works the same. That’s a good thing, though. Everyone and their grandmother has played Wii bowling and knows how it works. Sony isn’t reinventing motion control with the Move. They are, however, seriously improving it. A [...]

  • If you’re selling pirated games over the Internet you deserve to be locked up for being a fool

If you’re selling pirated games over the Internet you deserve to be locked up for being a fool

Don't mess with Canada, I suppose. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police arrested someone last month for selling pirated games over the Internet. Of all the dumb things I've read, that's right up there with the best of them. Like, selling pirated video games on the Internet should be featured in "World's Dumbest Criminals" on some trash-television channel.

There will be a Red Faction movie. Let that sink in for a moment.

Wow, someone has been tricked into making a Red Faction movie. That blows my mind. I base this on the first Red Faction for the PS2, which I don't recall enjoying at all. Maybe it'll be the first time we say the opposite of, "Eh, the book was better."

So I got a random delivery today, and I was quite surprised to see it was from Nintendo. Even more surprising was when I opened the box and saw they had sent me the two latest Pokemon games, HeartGold and SoulSilver. What was even more interesting was when I started to read the enclosed literature that explained exactly what's new about these two games.

Shock: Sony invites devs to make games for the PS3

Flash: Sony executive is bullish about the PS3! The Wii—you've heard of it, yes? Years ago, it was hard to find because it was massively popular. You could find one on eBay, but for like $8 million. Nowadays? Not so much. Games like New Super Mario Bros. CGM Night: CrunchGear visits Otaku party in Tokyo (photo report)

Being based in Tokyo has its advantages, and one of them is being close to Akihabara, the world's paradise for all things geek: Video games, anime, manga, Cosplay, figures, maid cafes etc. etc. And over the weekend, I was fortunate to be invited by one of Japan's most famous otaku (and Japan) culture bloggers, an Englishman called Danny Choo, to "CGM Night".
