    Officially Official: The iPhone 4

Steve Jobs finally made the iPhone 4 official. He’s probably more glad to see this happen than us with more than a couple iPhone 4s prematurely making their way into journalist’s hands over the last few weeks. But none of that really matters anymore. The iPhone 4 is here. Hardware changes and updates: Jobs “Thinnest smartphone on [...]

Nokia N8 on its way to Vodafone UK

Vodafone UK now have the Nokia N8 on their "Coming Soon" page, so it seems a pretty safe bet that Nokia's new top-end Symbian ^3 powered handset will indeed be "Coming Soon" to Vodafone UK. You can probably also safely bet that the phone is "Coming Soon" to other carriers, too... but I don't have a handy reference page for any other operators. Sorry.

  • Acer ‘Liquid Stream’ S110 scores FCC approval: Android, 720p video recording

Acer ‘Liquid Stream’ S110 scores FCC approval: Android, 720p video recording

So a new Android-powered handset from Acer popped up at IO last week -- the so-called "Liquid Stream," which would presumably succeed the Liquid and Liquid e in Acer's lineup. AndroidGuys is reporting that the phone is currently running Android 2.1 (which we'd hope would morph into 2.2 by release) paired with a Snapdragon core and a 5 megapixel camera capable of 720p video capture, so it's the "5.0 Megapixel HD 720p" inscription on the back of the diagram in this FCC filing for a phone called the Acer S110 (along with the obvious similarity in shape) that's allowing us to deduce that these two bad boys are one and the same. Android France has it pegged for October -- and it's got 850 / 1900MHz HSPA, so we could theoretically see a few land in North America by the time this all shakes out. Who's interested?

LG Vu Plus coming to AT&T on June 6 for $150

So that Vu Plus we'd tipped for a June 6 release has just gone official, and needless to say, it's not your daddy's Vu. The most notable change is the addition of a landscape slider QWERTY keyboard, but one of the Vu's hallmark's -- support for AT&T's FLO-based Mobile TV service -- carries over for $9.99 a month with a free 7-day trial subscription. It's got a 3-inch capacitive touchscreen, 7.2Mbps HSDPA, a 3 megapixel autofocus cam with video recording, AT&T Video Share compatibility, and microSD expansion if the phone's internal 50MB just aren't cutting it. Look for it to hit shelves for $149.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate. Follow the break for the full release.

Samsung i8920 Omnia HD2 leaking its way across the net as we speak

Samsung's successor to the Symbian-powered i8910 (aka OmniaHD) has just bust its pipes, and is now leaking all over the internet (too soon?). The leaks thus far point to a 4" Super AMOLED screen, a 12MP camera with both Xenon and LED flash (why not?), 30fps 720p video recording (just like its older sibling), and 16 or 32 GB internal storage, all running atop Symbian^3. Oh, and it also includes the soon-to-be-standard-on-high-end-phones WiFi b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0.

  • HTC EVO 4G review

    HTC EVO 4G review

digg_url = 'http://digg.com/gadgets/Sprint_s_4G_iPhone_killer_reviewed'; As a mobile platform, the EVO 4G's Android foundation is still an infant -- well, okay, perhaps it's a tweener -- but in its two-odd years in the public spotlight, the list of truly revolutionary devices to use it has been a significant one: the G1 for being the first to market; the Nexus One for ushering in a new (and subsequently killed) retail model; perhaps the CLIQ for introducing Motorola to the platform or the Droid for bringing the company some desperately needed, long overdue success. For the moment, anyway, a whopping fraction of the world's most important phones are running Google's little experiment.

Needless to say, Sprint, HTC, and quite frankly, many of us have come to expect the EVO 4G to join that short list for some obvious reasons. Put simply, its magnificent list of specs reads as though it was scribbled on a napkin after a merry band of gadget nerds got tipsy at the watering hole and started riffing about their idea of the ultimate mobile device: a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 4.3-inch WVGA display, 8 megapixel camera with 720p video recording, HDMI-out, and WiMAX compatibility. Of course, the list of potential deal-breakers for a phone is as long as the EVO 4G's display is wide; to put it another way, there are countless ways HTC, Sprint, or even Google could've screwed this thing up. So does this moderately intimidating black slab of pure engineering and marketing -- this high-profile bet on Sprint's future -- deliver the goods? Read on.

Evidence Shows iPhone HD’s Ability to Shoot in… HD

Well, this one isn't really surprising now, is it? Mac Rumors have unearthed evidence in the latest iPhone 4.0 beta SDK that points pretty clearly to 720p video recording. Y'see, the latest iPhone SDK allows full access to video capture data, and there are some preset values in the SDK that explicitly mention a 1280x720 video resolution.
