Nexus One steps up to 720p HD video thanks to latest hack (video)
Posted on June 9, 2010 | No CommentsJust more evidence that rooting is the only true path of the geek. The indefatigable coders over at xda-developers have just pushed out a download that allows the Nexus One to start shooting video at 720p resolution. You'll need to have at least CyanogenMod version 5.0.8test3, but once you get your house in order, you'll be enjoying one of the big touted features of the latest handsets on your five-month old Googlephone. Pretty neat, and what's even better is that work is already underway to improve audio and the fps rate, as well as making the code compatible with Android Froyo, it all just requires a bit more tinkering. So, hit the source link to get the download or join us after the break for a quick sample video.

Evidence Shows iPhone HD’s Ability to Shoot in… HD
Posted on May 6, 2010 | No Comments
Well, this one isn't really surprising now, is it? Mac Rumors have unearthed evidence in the latest iPhone 4.0 beta SDK that points pretty clearly to 720p video recording.
Y'see, the latest iPhone SDK allows full access to video capture data, and there are some preset values in the SDK that explicitly mention a 1280x720 video resolution.

Qik gets rebuilt for Droid, 480p streaming is upon us
Posted on November 10, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Multimedia, Software
Qik had already been available on Android, but when you bring a monster like the Droid into the mix, it warrants a rewrite -- and that's what the company has put together this week. Qik's new Droid-specific build brings a wealth of new features into play, chiefly Android 2.0 support and an impressive 720 x 480 streaming video resolution, perfect for the Droid's expansive display and 5 megapixel (albeit questionably usable) camera. The version also includes an improved version of what Qik calls the "Speed Sharing Ribbon," an area at the bottom of the display that allows users to drop frequent contacts for sharing recorded videos. There's no word on when the new version hits Droids around the nation, but it's already in an invite-only beta stage, so hopefully it'll be available soon enough. Follow the break for a quick video of that wild 480p support in action -- you ready for the data onslaught, Verizon?Continue reading Qik gets rebuilt for Droid, 480p streaming is upon us

Qik Bumps Up The Recording Resolution For The Droid
Posted on November 10, 2009 | No Comments
As the number of Android-powered handsets on the market continues to expand, so do the technical capabilities of the applications that run on the platform. The Droid, for example, is the first handset to introduce video recording at a resolution 720x480 (more than double that of the 320x240 recording found on most other handsets), and app makers are already swooping in to take advantage of it.
The first off the bat is the mobile video broadcasting service Qik, who will later tonight be announcing beta support for the increased resolution.
