Vodafone UK details iPhone 4 plans a little early, we keep the screenshots
Posted on June 14, 2010 | No CommentsWe don't know what shenanigans are going on over in Vodafone HQ, but the UK carrier gave the world a quick glimpse of its iPhone 4 pricing today, before promptly removing the data sheets from the ether. Thankfully, a fast-witted reader by the name of Liam Gladdy captured the incriminating data for us, and we can now sit and ruminate on what Voda has in store. As you might surmise from above, the vast majority of users won't be getting the handset for free, though that doesn't necessarily preclude the contracts from representing good value. We note with glee that Vodafone keeps its data limit at a robust 1GB, unlike a certain other network, and the £30 ($44) a month two-year contract is looking decent from where we're sitting. Prices over 18 months just jump by £5 in monthly outlay with handset costs remaining the same. Click past the break for the full breakdown, including details for the 32GB variety.Continue reading Vodafone UK details iPhone 4 plans a little early, we keep the screenshots

iPhone 4 confirms June 24 date with O2, Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone in UK
Posted on June 7, 2010 | No CommentsGood news for non-America: O2 UK has become the first international carrier to confirm it'll have the iPhone 4 ready for purchase and adoration on launch day, June 24. After the iPad gave preferential treatment to the US with its release schedule, some might have feared the similarly hot piece of tech Apple just announced today will also suffer from a tiered launch. It's looking like Brits won't have to worry about that particular pain, but it's also curious that Vodafone and Orange -- the other local carriers of the iPhone -- are remaining mum tonight. Is Apple lending a hand to its old partner by allowing it early stock? That wouldn't be entirely unfathomable, though it would be pretty unpleasant for impatient types who fancy some carrier choice.
Update: Never mind that whole conspiracy theory: we've just seen that Orange is also throwing its hat into the June 24 ring -- let's keep this momentum going, guys! [Thanks, Blizzard]
Update 2: And now Tech Radar has heard direct from Vodafone that June 24 is a go, giving us a complete Brit pack.
Update 3: Hey, what do you know? T-Mobile UK's getting it too. Choice is good.Continue reading iPhone 4 confirms June 24 date with O2, Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone in UK

Nokia N8 on its way to Vodafone UK
Posted on May 27, 2010 | No Comments
Vodafone UK now have the Nokia N8 on their "Coming Soon" page, so it seems a pretty safe bet that Nokia's new top-end Symbian ^3 powered handset will indeed be "Coming Soon" to Vodafone UK.
You can probably also safely bet that the phone is "Coming Soon" to other carriers, too... but I don't have a handy reference page for any other operators. Sorry.

Samsung Wave brings Bada to Europe today, everyone else told to wait
Posted on May 24, 2010 | No CommentsSamsung's Wave (otherwise known as the 8500) may not be coming to Vodafone UK until June 1st, but it's available somewhere in Europe starting today. According to a new release from the outfit (seen in full after the break), today marks the first day in which its first Bada-equipped smartphone is available in Europe, with Germany, France and the UK mentioned in particular. We're also told that the "complete Bada SDK 1.0.0 will be available for download shortly," and while pricing details weren't discussed, the Wave should ride to Southeast Asia, China, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America in short order. Don't everyone cheer at once, okay?Continue reading Samsung Wave brings Bada to Europe today, everyone else told to wait

Samsung Galaxy S and Wave ‘coming soon’ to Vodafone UK
Posted on May 13, 2010 | No CommentsPerhaps eager to steal some of the thunder from Everything Everywhere's recent debut, Vodafone has updated its Coming Soon page to show a selection of new handsets, which is highlighted by Samsung's pair of Super AMOLED beasts, the Wave and Galaxy S. The Wave brings the new Bada sensibility to British shores, while the Galaxy S will be pretty much the most advanced Android handset the UK has yet seen. It runs version 2.1 with Samsung's own skin on top, but it's the hardware behind it that'll be pushing Brits to upgrade. Hit the source link to peruse the full list, which also includes the new BlackBerry Pearl 3G, but do remember to be patient -- an Amazon pre-order listing for the Wave (priced at £350, or 521 greenbacks) indicates a one to three month waiting period.Samsung Galaxy S and Wave 'coming soon' to Vodafone UK originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 13 May 2010 06:18:00 EST. Looks like Microsoft’s Kins might be heading to AT&T, T-Mobile, and many more
Posted on April 28, 2010 | No Comments
Looks like the Verizon/Vodafone exclusivity on the Kin 1 and Kin 2 might be short-lived -- or at least, someone at Microsoft is already prepping for the day when it's over.
Days before the Kin 1 and 2 were made official, a ROM hacker known only to the internets as Conflipper published screenshots pulled from an early copy of the Kin OS. After a bit more digging, Conflipper just stumbled upon some more goodies: Kin system provisioning files for other carriers. Lots.. and lots of other carriers.

Google’s Nexus One Hits Vodafone UK
Posted on April 26, 2010 | No Comments
Brits can now get their hands on Google's so-called 'superphone' for an upfront cost of "free". Kinda.
Available from today for pre-order on Vodafone UK, the Android-powered Google Nexus One can be had for £35 per-month on a 2 year contract, including a bundle of minutes and texts, and the much needed 1GB monthly data allowance -- this is a Google Phone after all (see TechCrunch review).
There are a number of other tariffs available too. Customers who pre-order can expect deliveries to go out on April 30th.

Xperia X10 to launch in April on Vodafone UK (Update: And others!)
Posted on February 4, 2010 | No CommentsIf you’d captured all the drool we’ve drooled over the X10 since it first got detailed so many months ago, you’d have a pool deep enough to swim in. A very nasty pool that you shouldn’t actually swim in, but a pool nonetheless. Today, UK wireless carrier Vodafone has announced that they’ll soon be carrying the [...] -
Vodafone UK launching the iPhone January 14th
Posted on December 21, 2009 | No Comments
Unlike here in the States, the iPhone exclusivity deal for the UK wasn't a big pile of absurd. O2 got exclusivity for 2 years. Once that was up, it was an open game where just about any carrier was free to hop on the iPhone - and hop they have.

iPhone and Vodafone UK set the date: January 14
Posted on December 21, 2009 | No CommentsVodafone has decided if it can't give us the iPhone for the holidays, it'll do the next best thing and spill details of its launch and pricing of Apple's finest. Available from January 14, the iPhone will be yours for £30 ($48) per month on two-year contracts, though up-front charges will set you back £239 ($386) for the 32GB 3GS variety. A monthly 1GB of 3G data is permitted, alongside unlimited WiFi, but what might be most interesting here is that Vodafone will allow you to use the iPhone as a modem. Such use will not be covered by your allowance of course, and will cost £5 ($8) for each 500MB downloaded, but we're happy to see a carrier offering the option. Furthermore, though Vodafone's agreement to carry the iPhone seemed a rushed defensive move, the company now claims it has been preparing its network for over a year to handle the increased traffic it expects.iPhone and Vodafone UK set the date: January 14 originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 21 Dec 2009 06:03:00 EST. Nokia N900 coming to Vodafone UK in January 2010
Posted on December 15, 2009 | No CommentsQuick and dirty bit of news for you lovely subjects of the United Kingdom and independent spirits of Ireland: Vodafone's online store is showing the much hailed N900 as an option, with handsets expected at some point next month. The Irish arm of the carrier had already admitted it'll be offering the device, and we foresee the two launching the handset simultaneously early in the new year, with regrettably little competition from the other UK carriers. As Electric Pig reported when the N900 first started shipping, only O2 replied with a "not yet," while Orange and T-Mobile were presumably too busy making out to respond.

Rumor: BlackBerry Storm 2 to hit VZW in November
Posted on August 4, 2009 | No CommentsRemember last year when everyone was stoked about the new touchscreen BlackBerry called the Storm? Oh man, the hype was huge. There was iPhone-ish lines, media coverage, the works. But then the first reviews came out and we all realized the truth: the phone sucked. It's now a lot better thank to firmware updates, but the upcoming BlackBerry Storm 2 will hopefully recapture some of the original anticipation..

And we're off! Without all that much fanfare following the announcement of Samsung's smartphone operating system,
