    Haier Debuts LED HDTVs at CES

    clip_image004 Haier, a maker of freezers, washing machines, televisions, water heaters, air conditioners, and microwave ovens, today at CES announced its ultra slim LED TV lineup. The company's first generation of LED TVs are available in 46”, 40”, 32”, 24”, 22” and 19” screen sizes. The 19” and 22” models start shipping in January and the other sizes shortly after that.

    You know what would be a fun experiment? To go outside and find your electricity meter. All those laptops and netbooks and iPhones and PS3s and speaker docks you've got plugged in are, in fact, drawing power. As such, we're all essentially killing the planet. I don't know about you, but I'm patting myself on the back right now for being so awesome.

    Energy consumption will triple by 2030 if electronics’ efficiency doesn’t increase

    Yes, your refrigerator, washer, and dryer may be Energy Star certified, but any good you're doing is offset by your DVD player, TV and computer. That's the simplified version of a new International Energy Agency report that says white goods—refrigerator, washing machines, etc.—are a lot more energy efficient than they used to be, but that consumer electronics—computers, TVs, etc—haven't made the same progress. And we're all doomed for it.

    LG & Intel’s Brand Spankin New MID Platform

    LG and Intel announced that they are partnering to produce MIDs (mobile internet devices) based on Intel's Moorestown hardware platform and Moblin OS. LG hopes to release internet devices with low power consumption. They are also tapping Ericsson to provide 3G capabilities for the devices.
