Huawei E5830 MiFi / i-Mo gets free unlock tool, parties outside the USA
Posted on May 10, 2010 | No Comments
Nope, this isn't the MiFi that you guys are familiar with in the States; everyone else -- mainly 3 / Hutchison customers -- are given this cute-looking Huawei E5830 HSPA modem instead. If you want to join this exotic MiFi party but would rather boogie with a different carrier, then fear not, as ex-iPhone hacker Zibri's just released a free unlock tool. It's pretty easy -- just plug in your MiFi (with its preloaded SIM card inside) into a Windows machine, launch the program, type in "Success! :)" to unveil the unlock button, and you know the rest. Of course, as with all unofficial hacks there's always a risk somewhere, so proceed with caution.Huawei E5830 MiFi / i-Mo gets free unlock tool, parties outside the USA originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Mon, 10 May 2010 11:14:00 EST. Thanko’s Spy Watch with built-in video camera
Posted on January 18, 2010 | No Comments
For some reason, Toyko-based USB accessory maker Thanko is selling a wide range of "spy gadgets", with a button camera and an HD video pen as the latest additions to the line-up. Today Thanko gives us a wrist watch [JP], which may look rather unassuming from the outside but actually sports a micro spy camera.

Thanko rolls out not one but two spy cams
Posted on December 14, 2009 | No Comments
Tokyo-based USB gadget maker today started selling two spy cameras, the so-called Camera Cap [JP] and the LED Spy Light [JP]. While it's a bit of a stretch to call the latter a spy accessory, the bizarre cap can surely be used for undercover reconnaissance and other shenanigans. As to be expected, both gadgets are kind of silly and powered by USB.

Buffalo announces world’s first 12x Blu-ray burner (and it’s USB 3.0, too)
Posted on November 26, 2009 | No Comments
USB 3.0 is just around the corner (kind of), and the first computer hardware manufacturers are getting ready to deliver products supporting the new standard (even though there were some backlashes along the way). Last month, Asus announced the world's first USB 3.0 + SATA 6.0 PCI-E card. In May, NEC said they're going to release the first USB 3.0 host controller.

Apple Begged Microsoft to Stop Running ‘Laptop Hunter’ Ads

Hands-on with the Brite-View CinemaCube HD multi-media player, BitTorrent downloader
Posted on July 7, 2009 | No Comments
At $90, Brite-View’s CinemaCube appears to be a viable BitTorrent downloader for the home theater, but my first few minutes with it were an exercise in futility. Testing the other features of the CinemaCube seems pointless if I can’t get the BitTorrent client to work, IMO. That’s not to say I didn’t get it to work, but it shouldn’t be as difficult as it is. Consider this a rant, but I’ll do my best to keep a level head about it. Once I’ve worked all the kinks out I’ll have a full review, but until then…you get the point.
