Xbox 360 Gets Live Sports In HD From ESPN. Canceling My Cable In 5, 4, 3…

Everyone is busy talking about Microsoft Kinect (the project formerly known as Natal), but to me, some much bigger news just dropped at E3 from Microsoft: ESPN live sports access. Simply put: this was the only thing holding me back from completely canceling my cable subscription. As soon as this goes live, I'm done with cable forever. No, this live sporting access won't be entirely free, but it's one hell of a deal. You simply have be an Xbox Live Gold member (about $50 a year), and you'll get access to over 3,500 live events a year. In HD. Did I mention it was $50 a year? My cable bill is currently double that -- a month.

Sure, we’ll see some Kinect demos, but there better be more. 3D anyone? More as we get it. [Update: Live video stream [...]

  • Video: Yes, that’s Crysis 2 running on the Xbox 360

Video: Yes, that’s Crysis 2 running on the Xbox 360

Part of the draw of Crysis 2 is that it'll run just as well on your Xbox 360 or PS3 as it will on my PC. That's what CryTek, the game's developers, told the gaming press back in April. I saw the Xbox 360 version in action that day, and yeah: it looks insane for an Xbox 360 game; hard to believe it's running on five-year-old hardware. But now you can look at the game in action for yourself~!

    Xbox 360 to add Hulu?

From DVR to On-Demand, more and more TV viewers are choosing when they get to watch their favorite programs. The greater question has been how you’ll be able to get all the other content to your screen — stuff like Netflix and Hulu. If you have an Xbox, the latter problem may be a thing of the past.

  • How has the exciting world of technology changed since the last World Cup? Let us count the ways!

How has the exciting world of technology changed since the last World Cup? Let us count the ways!

A little birdie told me that the World Cup begins in just a few weeks, on June 11, 2010, in South Africa. Four years prior saw Italy lift the trophy in Germany, beating France on penalties. Zinedine Zidane also headbutted Marco Materazzi that day—an immense event in Internet history. A lot of things have changed since that day in Berlin, a lot of things that will shock and amaze you. For example, did you know that Facebook was still only open to college and high school students the moment Fabio Grosso smashed the ball past Fabien Barthez? So, what else has changed between then and now?

  • Microsoft: So what that Apple is the ‘biggest’ tech company? We’re still rich!

Microsoft: So what that Apple is the ‘biggest’ tech company? We’re still rich!

Oh, Microsoft. Don't worry: people still love you. Also, people still hate you, so it all works out in the end. CEO Steve Ballmer told the Wall Street Journal something along the lines of, "So what Apple is now the "biggest" tech company in the land. Big deal. We still make incredible amounts of money. In fact, I'm going to go swim in my giant pool of money right now. Talk later." An exact quote? No, but it certainly captures the spirit that Ballmer was trying to convey: let Apple have its moment in the Sun, but we're not doing too bad for ourselves over here, you know?

  • Ouch rumor: Project Natal will cost $150 stand-alone, part of $300 Xbox Arcade bundle this October

Ouch rumor: Project Natal will cost $150 stand-alone, part of $300 Xbox Arcade bundle this October

I sure hope for Microsoft's sake this isn't true. Word on the street is that Project Natal (which won't be the final name) will cost $150 and will launch in October. Considering Microsoft is aiming Natal at so-called casual gamers, what are the odds these people are going to shell out $150 to be able to play that paint-slinging game we've seen demoed over and over again?

Epic Games says something silly about piracy

Anyone else tired of video game publishers complaining about piracy? Like, human nature is such that you'll always have a bunch of knuckleheads who will hop on BitTorrent and download away. Forget them, they're jerks. Just focus on the non-jerks out there and go about your business. Anyhow, today the spotlight falls on Epic Games, makers of Unreal and Gears of War. Seems those guys think that all the money these days is in consoles, so PC gamers will have to get used to crummy ports or nothing at all!

PSN Premium rumor has the Internets shaking in its boots

In my lower moments I can be found browsing various message boards, watching mere children argue over what video game console is superior, the Xbox 360 or the PS3. No, I'm not lying, sad as that may be. Eventually the PS3 supporters whip out this gem: "Yeah, well at least we don't have to pay to play online," which is a clever dig at Xbox Live's $50 price tag. Don't tell them this rumor, then: Sony will unveil a PSN Premium at E3 next month, and it will cost money.

Microsoft gearing up for worldwide launch of Project Natal in October

In an interview with GamertagRadio, Microsoft Saudi marketing manager Syed Bilal Tariq reportedly spilled the beans on the launch date (well, month) of Project Natal, the Redmond company's motion-sensing camera for the Xbox 360. Not only did Tariq say that Project Natal would be hitting the market in October 2010, well in time for the holiday season, but he apparently also revealed that the launch would be global, or simultaneously in North-America and the EMEA region at the very least.
