The JVC GZ-HM550 brings a new set of standards to the table. It isn’t the 1920 x 1080 recording or 9 MP stills. Nor is it the 32GB internal flash memory with an SD/SDHC card slot playing backup or even the Konica Minolta HD lens. Nope, it’s the novel Bluetooth function that might make a full size camcorder relevant again in a smartphone world.
Using Bluetooth, unspecified smartphones can remotely control playback and recording functions directly from their interfaces. Bluetooth headsets can also be used for monitoring audio levels.
The functions seem limited at best right now, but this is just the first generation. Think about the live video preview and playback that’s possible with this type of connectivity. Soon, you might be able to set your camcorder on a tripod and comfortable control it from afar. Nice, eh?
The JVC GZ-HM550 is now available and carries a $799 MSRP.
