Note to manufacturers and the Internet: Just because a tablet has the latest hardware, can run Flash, and rocks Android, doesn’t mean it’s going to take over the world. Like this Mastone Lifespad 3G. Technology-wise it’s on par with the iPad with it’s 1Ghz Freescale CPU, 512MB of DDR2 RAM, and 3G module. Then the Android 2.1 install somewhat tops the iPhone OS with multitasking and the works. But that doesn’t mean it’s an iPad killer.
This tablet will have 5 minutes of fame as another nearly identical tablet will make its way onto the Internet this afternoon. There has been a steady stream of iPad clones flowing out of China for the last few months but yet not one has had any real traction. It all boils down to marketing and distributional channels. A random Chinese manufacturing house could develop a real iPad killer with a robust app store and a better UI, but it doesn’t matter if they don’t have a way of getting it into people’s hands.
